Save up to 24% Off Your Power Bill

It’s no secret the cost of energy is adding to our already stretched household budgets. It's why so many SDC members are making a bid to rein in those spiralling power costs.

It makes sense when you consider that energy prices across Australia have risen by over 30% within the last 12 months—on top of the 20% rise last year. And it doesn’t look like they’ll be going down anytime soon, either.

In fact, experts say* we've not seen the end of energy price hikes for 2023/2024—for electricity as well as gas.

Let’s now couple that with other rising costs of living, and it’s no wonder many of us are likely feeling the financial squeeze right now.

What can you do?

There’s still time to discover the best option for you (with a little bit of help*).

If your wallet could do with a helping hand, Compare Club’s experts* might have just the offer: How about putting up to $520 back in your pocket*?

I tried using compare club to compare electricity companies. Trouble is once you register on these sites you start getting pestered by phone calls wanting you to switch now, the quicker the better, so we can get our kick back from the company we suggest you go with. They just won’t listen when you say I’m not ready, I want to compare more at my leisure, preferably without you hassling me every five minutes. When I asked why I couldn’t just compare at my own leisure, online, without being hassled I don’t think they were very happy. So I just kept hanging up when they rang, took a few weeks before they got the message and went away.

Are you sure . Alot of people think this and then are surprised to see they actually have other options. It's worth rechecking
This is a fact if living in W.A. a State Government owned institution.

A monopoly because every home needs electricity to their home.

We do however have a choice with gas because not every household has gas to their homes.

The is only one reason energy prices have risen to the levels they currently are, and it is not global issues, not higher demands, not anything else. It is because of the current incompetent government and their absurd net zero target. This pipe dream of rendering coal obsolete is yet another greenie climate change ideal which is the world's greatest ever scam. The $275 reduction in power prices lie was a key indicator that liebour had no idea and now their agenda for destruction of the mining industry proves their incompetence. Along the way the cost of living has exceeded any other previous government. While we have a grandstanding pretend prime minister and a dunce apprentice treasurer, we will always have poor financial performance.
Couldn't have put it better.... bravo.
This could make my Christmas if they could have a public lynching of everyone in a government seat...
I am tired of the constant blah blah blah spewing forth lies and skirting the REAL issue with nothing ever done.

For anyone that believes we cannot achieve NET ZERO .... Google NOT ZERO.
There is a lot of people waking up to the fact we simply cannot reach the goal that governments are chasing.

I don't think a lynching would be the thing to do. Perhaps bring back the stocks and pillaries and put liebour politicians and their supporters in them and give each of the rest of us a rotten tomato to throw at them.

Spoken like a true liebour bot. Speaking about people thinking for themselves, it appears the liebour ROM has been very firmly implanted.

I think we should change our billers each time a rate rises, because I got a rate from one company which was less ,but a rate rise 6 months later it was adjusted in figures I couldn't understand but then switch to another biller and presto another discount...so just change billers every 3-6 months. it is worth it

Such a large jump doesn't sound correct. A person growing drugs could possibly justify such a huge jump but not you.
I wonder if someone is connected to your supply. Every bit of power they are using would mean you are paying for what they use. This has happened before.
I think you need someone to check the usage (number of units) you were charged for. Either the supplier or an electrician can do this for you.

One way to check this yourself is to turn every appliance off at the PowerPoint & lights off then go to the meter box & see if the meter is working. If this is working there is a very high likelihood someone is illegally using your power supply. Time then for further action!
I have had this avenue checked and no go... no illegal "hookups"

I have been with the same energy company since coming to Oz 57 years ago and have got a fair deal from them always. If not satisfied I have always rung the company and requested a better deal and have always got it. Just recently, much to my surprise, I have had two monthly bill where I have been put into credit. I guess this is the government subsidy which I have received without having to ask for it.

I encourage everyone to switch every 12 months - even more often.

I recently signed up on the AGL Seniors Plan and found out within a couple of bills that I was actually paying more than my previous plan! Within 6 months I was gone.
I have been with AGL for some years now in saying that i will be looking for another provide. The reason being i changed my billing from 3 monthly to 1 monthly since doing that i have been getting some bills for nearly $500 a month i am appalled by this. When i ask them why they can’t seem to come up with a proper answer i am so over. It is more than i was paying for 3 monthly bills.

my gas and hot water plus heating was fantastic used to be around $100 -$120 per quarter for gas and electric around $230 Now $861 last bill just for electric (lights radio and tv ,computer and phone only) I am waiting for my gas bill for stove heater and hot water ,I live in a 2 b/room house and live alone, if my last bill for elect went from $230 to$861, I shudder to think what my gas bill is going to be.. (and get a pensioner rebate $48 )
I agree with the others you need to have that investigated that’s way too high

Do it the easy way..... shower once a fortnight and keep a record of units used and the rate. Read the meters on a daily basis for at least a month and keep a record for later comparison.... measure something and you will see a drop in usage.
Exactly what I do.
Everyone in the house has been banned from using hot water (gas) except for showering .
The rate per Kg of gas goes up so the usage must go down to even the balance.
It will get to the stage where we shower once per month instead of once per fortnight.

does anyone know if there is a university course to learn how to read a electricity or gas bill? im dammed if I can make heads or tails of them ,ive asked many people, and no one knows ,just pay up, and when you receive your daily telemarketing calls and accept one, it only lasts for one or two bills and then you receive an update on the new price rises ...and then its time for musical chairs and change companies again.....and ...its worth it. definitely save money if you change companies...even if its only for one bill
