Management team

Jonathan Leane

Jonathan Leane

Co-Founder

Jon is a Founder and Former Chief Marketing Officer of Compare Club. He has an incredible knack for starting and growing businesses. In fact, he accidentally started Compare Club and then (slightly less accidentally) started the Seniors Discount Club (I guess you could say he has a knack for ‘clubs’?).

Jon’s strengths range from big-picture ideas to nitty-gritty performance marketing. Jon loves the investigative side of journalism and bringing you the latest news directly from the source. His favourite part of the Seniors Discount Club is receiving emails that compliment him by name or anyone willing to talk nerdy with him.

Maddison Dwyer

Maddison Dwyer

Co-Founder

Maddie and Jon worked together for 2 years at Compare Club. When Maddie left, it only took Jon a few short months to snatch Maddie up again with a vision for a new business. They’ve worked on building the Seniors Discount Club, full-time, together since December 2020.

While Maddie has a strong marketing background, she has a soft spot for interacting with members and building relationships. You can often find Maddie digging up the best news stories with a green tea in hand (and if it mentions Princess Diana, you can bet Maddie already knows about it).

Editorial Team

April Bradford

April Bradford

Content Editor

April is the first official Editor that the Seniors Discount Club (SDC) brought on board. She joined the team in June 2022 and brings with her a degree in Writing, Editing and History, two years of in-house book editing experience, four years of technical editing experience and a passion for publishing. She’s a fan of book recommendations and wins every pop-culture trivia round.

Vella Gonzaga

Vella Gonzaga

Newsletter Coordinator

Vella was one of the first-ever SDC employees, starting in August 2021 (only four months into SDC’s creation). It’s common knowledge within the team that without Vella, the SDC may never have reached where it is today. She puts her Communication degree to good use and has cemented her spot as our lifestyle guru and morning newsletter writer.

Sethia Soliman

Sethia Soliman

Newsletter and Community Engagement Coordinator

Sethia joined the SDC team in February 2022 and quickly became one of our most well-known writers. You may recognise her name from the forum where she loves to chat with and welcome new members. In her writing days, Sethia loved to try out new products and cleaning hacks. She has since received a promotion and now writes our five-day-a-week afternoon newsletter. Sethia lives and breathes the Seniors Discount Club and puts her whole heart into the community.

James Gutierrez

James Gutierrez

Writer

James has been a valued member of the SDC team since October 2021. What you may not know is that he is well and truly a cinephile – he even has a degree majoring in it (AND experience working in a production crew)! In an ideal world, James would be writing about TV and movies 24/7! He does enjoy a good piece of breaking news and general pop culture too.

Ally Castillo

Ally Castillo

Writer

Ally joined the SDC team at the end of October 2022. She quickly became a fast-favourite among members for her witty entertainment articles. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations and has extensive experience in legal writing and the international humanitarian sphere. Her favourite topics to write about are reviewing movies/books/TV shows, and international political issues.

Jarred Santos

Jarred Santos

Writer and Community Engagement Coordinator

Jarred joined the team two weeks before Ally, in October 2022, and jumped right into the fun! Before joining the SDC, he worked for a couple of years as a news producer and then a few months as an all-around freelancer. He has a degree in Development Communication.

Muhammad Zuhri

Muhammad Zuhri

Developer

Zuhri has been with us from the start, working hard in the background to make the website the best it can be. He’s our all-around tech whizz, from keeping the website up and running to helping the team with any and all technical issues.

Editorial Guidelines

Seniors Discount Club adheres to the Australian Press Council’s advisory guidelines and general journalistic principles.

Accuracy and clarity

Ensure that factual material in news reports and elsewhere is accurate and not misleading, and is distinguishable from other material such as opinion.

Provide a correction or other adequate remedial action if published material is significantly inaccurate or misleading (see our complaints procedure for more information).

Fairness and balance

Ensure that factual material is presented with reasonable fairness and balance and that writers’ expressions of opinion are not based on significantly inaccurate factual material or omission of key facts.

Ensure that where material refers adversely to a person, a fair opportunity is given for subsequent publication of a reply if that is reasonably necessary to address a possible breach of General Principle 3.

Privacy and avoidance of harm

Avoid intruding on a person’s reasonable expectations of privacy, unless doing so is sufficiently in the public interest.

Avoid causing or contributing materially to substantial offence, distress or prejudice, or a substantial risk to health or safety, unless doing so is sufficiently in the public interest.

Integrity and transparency

Avoid publishing material that has been gathered by deceptive or unfair means, unless doing so is sufficiently in the public interest.

Ensure that conflicts of interests are avoided or adequately disclosed and that they do not influence published material.

Fact-checking

Reasonable steps will be taken to confirm information within our articles. Sources will be clearly identified and any pending legal proceedings or allegations will be framed as such.

Sourcing

We occasionally source stories from social media and forum sites such as Reddit, OzBargain, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. We also reference a variety of news sites such as News.com.au, Daily Mail, 7 News, 9 News, ABC and The Guardian.

Where quotes or research from other sources are used, writers will credit the original source and hyperlink to the source.

When we have republished a story, with permission, from another organisation, clear copy will appear at the end of the article acknowledging their authorship. Currently, The Conversation is the only organisation we republish.

Corrections Policy

Seniors Discount Club will correct errors as soon as possible. When we have corrected a substantial error or made a redaction, a line will appear at the bottom of the article to acknowledge the correction. Corrections and edits may be made to published articles at any time, without notice.

Product recommendations

No products are sponsored unless stated otherwise. While we may occasionally partner with another company to produce ‘sponsored’ content, the article or ‘Let’s Save’ deal will be clearly marked as such.

The Seniors Discount Club does have a commercial relationship with Health Insurance Comparison, this means we may be compensated if you compare your health insurance with them.

Complaints

To make a complaint, email [email protected]. You will receive a response within 5 working days.
