I worked in a building society many years ago when everyone had a passbook!! An eccentric older lady (who had lots of money!!) said “I want to give you something”. In anticipation I smiled giving my best attention………………
“Don’t try and keep up with the Jones’s - and she left!!!!!
Great my name is Heather Jones!!!!!😳
This saying originated from a 1913 comic strip in a newspaper., called Keeping up with the Joneses It depicts the social climbing McGinis family, who struggle to "keep up" with their neighbors, the Joneses .

Members! It's (finally) time for another competition!

This month, we're looking for the best piece of advice you've ever received OR that you've given. Did your mum tell you to wash behind your ears or always eat your vegetables? Perhaps the advice was to be kind to strangers. We want to hear from you.

The top answer will win a $100 voucher to (your choice) of either Woolies, Coles, IGA or ALDI. We plan to run this competition until the end of October.

Happy writing! We can't wait to read all your wonderful advice!

The best piece of advice I have given was to my husband who had not had his eyes checked for many years. I almost dragged him to the optometrist and he was immediately sent to the Eye specialist with glaucoma so severe that he would have been blind within 6 months.

Both my Mum and Dad used to tell me not to say “I don’t know” but rather to say something like “I don’t know that YET”!

The BEST advice is not to worry at bedtime. Solutions always come easier after a good nights sleep. In the morning if you don’t have a solution your friends will be awake and you can share a problem. In verbalising your worry you often see the answer yourself. Thanks Dad

Advice from a university lecturer that I never forgot- Don’t jump on every bandwagon as some lead to funerals. Great advice when you work in education as someone is always coming up with “new” ideas on how best to teach children.

Best piece of advice: CLEAN UP and prepare BEFORE going to bed to start a new day fresh. 1. clean up and put away any items in lounge, fluff pillows. All electricals off at power points. 2. Clean up kitchen and prep oats, yogurt and fruit in jar in fridge for breakfast. Approximately 10 minutes
