'Best piece of advice' competition - Share your best advice and you could win $100

Members! It's (finally) time for another competition!

This month, we're looking for the best piece of advice you've ever received OR that you've given. Did your mum tell you to wash behind your ears or always eat your vegetables? Perhaps the advice was to be kind to strangers. We want to hear from you.

The top answer will win a $100 voucher to (your choice) of either Woolies, Coles, IGA or ALDI. We plan to run this competition until the end of October.

Happy writing! We can't wait to read all your wonderful advice!

My father (god rest his soul) always told myself and 4 siblings......
"As long as you learn a new thing each day, you've done your best!"

I had one piece of advice from my father which was Always pay your way son and you will never go far wrong, and my mother"s advice was Always choose your friends carefully because your best friend can turn out to be your worst enemy.

Son, It doesn't matter what she looks like, cooks like or fooks like; the first fades with time, the second is something she can learn and the last is something only YOU should be teaching her.
Listen, instead; if her words and voice are harsh now, it will only get worse, so go for a happy voice!

The best advice I ever got was from my dearly missed Grandfather: "Life is a journey and you can decide who travels the roads with you. Select with care, leave behind those who try to hold you back, and offer a helping hand when you can."

My father had an excellent piece of advice: When you have a problem that needs to be solved you will encounter two emotions, worry and concern. Always remember worry is a negative emotion that will not solve the problem whereas concern will let you search for answers in a positive way.

My father taught me to treat everyone the same same way that you would want your daughter or grandmother to be treated. For me that has always meant respect.

Never go out without your handkerchief. (I don't know what happens if you do as I've always followed the advice!)

When I had depression the best thing I did was help someone else
Who around you has trouble getting to the shops / gardening / because of a disability? Spend time creating things to donate to local charity
Give without expectation
It’s an end of day pleasant reflection on the gift of giving

Many years ago (50yrs) a wise old woman (she was at least 40yo) told me "if it's not life threatening then it's not important " it's something that I have never forgotten and I quote often

You get more bees with nectar than vinegar

"Sit down, shut up and be quiet"
I thank my parents for this advice because I saved wear and tear on my shoes, and I learned a lot of valuable lessons in life by keeping my mouth shut, listening and observing everything around me.

  • Problems are just solutions to be found!
  • Actions speak louder than words;
  • Learn to LISTEN;
  • Kindness costs you nothing;
  • If you make a promise, keep it!
  • Procrastination is the thief of time;
  • Remember, you too will get old;
  • Learn from the lessons life teaches you. There will be many!
  • Live as if this moment in time is your last. It may well be!

The best piece of advice came from my father in the form of his actions. During a heated argument with said father, I realised that he was probably in the right but being stubborn I wasn’t backing down. I left his house in a huff and went home. That afternoon he arrived with an olive tree which together we planted. This simple act bought deep reflection and a change in thoughts and actions on my part for the better. While not perfect, he was a great mentor and guide.

My mother,bless her departed soul, always said. "When someone really upsets you. Look straight at them in the eyes with a loving smile and say You know you have some caring andwonderful qualities . Thank you. Keep smiling and walk away." It really works!.
