What is something your mum used to say to you when you were a kid?

Hey members!

How have you all been? I have another fun question for you today. With Mother's Day just around the corner, it got me thinking about the countless memories and stories we have of our incredible mums. I want to know: what is something your mother used to say to you when you were a kid that still sticks with you today? Maybe it was a phrase that always made you feel better when you were feeling down or some sage advice that you still live by. Or perhaps it was just a funny expression that always made you laugh. Whatever it was, let's take a moment to share it and celebrate the fantastic women who have supported us through thick and thin.

Something my mother used to say to me when I did not like my food as a kid was, 'There are children starving all over the world; eat your dinner’. I knew it was just her way of getting me to eat my vegetables, but I couldn't help but feel guilty for not finishing what was on my plate.

Now it’s your turn. Share your stories with us in the comments below.

Mum used some interesting words.. Bijingo!! and codswallop. My favourite was "a wigwam for a goose's bridal"😂 ,if we asked what something was that we weren't supposed to know.

“Hold your horses “ if we were being impatient about something

Mad as a meat axe.

When I tried to do something that didn't quite turn out my Mum would say "well, a blind man would be happy to see it!" :)

“You better watch out, the wind will change and your face will look like that forever”, when I would be pulling faces!!

Wait until your Father gets home.

Eat your carrots 🥕 they are good for your eyes . And eat your spinach it will make your hair curly ! Did I even want curly hair!

She also used to say
There are children starving all over world , now eat your food. Yhis worked for awhile then I told her I was happy to give them mine , her reply was ' don't be stupid '

Mum used to say if there was enough blue in the sky to make a man a pair of pants it wasn’t going to rain

When walking along, if she wanted me to link arms she’d say “put your leg in bed” lol

You can please some but you can’t please all

You are not leaving this table, until you have finished everything on your plate! ….. and I would still be sitting there until nearly dinner time. 😟

"Turn out that light and go to sleep NOW, your father and I want to sleep"

Oh, I had my own room, but mum hoped I would fall asleep before them, as my room was next to theirs's so she could see my light on. I used to turn the light out for her but sat under the covers drawing or reading. Even as a small child I only slept about 3 hours out of every 24, unless I was sick. I'm still the same in my mid 60's. Been like this since I was the age of four.

If you do it properly the first time you won't have to do it again.

Also I use to stand and wait for the item to jump out and say 'Here I am '
Mum said You actually have to move things and look properly lol

When small and getting smacked as was allowed in those days. “This hurts me more than it hurts you”. I never understood that until I was a mother.

Shut ya mouth and eat ya dinner....
Huh!! ..Is she for real??

Do what ya are told or I will knock ya to kingdom come...
Where the hell is that?

He is the only kid that can talk with a mouth full of Marbles.
Bull*** .. but I was able to shoot marbles further than other kids in the street .. lol

It I got up in a bad mood my Mother used to say ‘go back to bed and get out the other side’ - thus I always wake happy.
