I really love this sort of thread.....
Using rhyme to play tricks in your head;
Twisting words in your favour
Their wit to just savour,

(3rd line shortened for better rhyming)

Well, it's partly the shape of the thing
That gives the old limerick wing;
These accordion pleats
Full of airy conceits,
Take it up like a kite on a string.

They say oh my goodness, my head!

well done both, Pommyuoz & SilverpinkDragon, why not do one together.

Hi everyone! We'd love to have a go at writing a limerick as a group :D You'll need to post the next line that will follow the last comment in the thread.

Here are the basic rules:

5 lines

Lines 1, 2 and 5 rhyme.
Lines 3 and 4 rhyme
Distinctive rhythm
Usually funny

Here is an example of a limerick:

There was an old man named Jake,
Who ate only spuds and beefsteak,
He drank, and he smoked,
And told dirty jokes,

And died young at a hundred and eight.

I'll get us started:

There was an old man in a tree...
There was an old man in a tree
Who wanted to see how far he could pee
He stood on a limb
That couldn't hold him
And fell off into some scree!

Come on Pommyoz lets write a line or two
We both find it so much fun to do;
When all the sentences rhyme
That's when we have a great time,
What! no time out for a bit of bill & coo?

Some folks are always good for a cuddle
Or a bill and coo which can lead to a muddle;
But when you get close
You are in for a dose,
Oooer! Covid or Flu that could be trouble!
