Curmudgeon.... "A bad tempered person, especially an old one."

I was once called a "crusty old curmudgeon" in a funny story written by a fellow member in our motorcycling club newsletter. It was a fun story made up around quite a few of our members.
After reading the story, I had to look the word up. I congratulated him and reckoned it was a great word find.
That's me most of the time.

I once had a neighbour who every time he went to a book store checked the dictionaries for the word Cacto-blastis. A plant disease. He would then complain that the store was wrong in not checking the dictionaries for the word. I no longer think this is a danger in Australia!

Flotsam & Jetsam: cargo that washes ashore after a ship has hit a reef etc.
There is a difference here. Flotsam is material lying in the water when a ship had had an unfortunate incident. Jetsam is material that is intentionally thrown overboard to try and save the vessel. Jonah was jetsam.

This wonderful and unusual word is not often found; one of the few dictionaries that does define it, the Oxford English Dictionary

I'll go first:

Creancer: Guardian or Mentor
So, can't figure out how to add a new word.
Groak - that's when a puppydog ( or a small person) gazes at you fixedly, in the hope of sharing something you are eating.

Wabbit

This word may put you in mind of “wascally wabbit,” Elmer Fudd’s version of “rascally rabbit.” But in fact, it’s an adjective from Scottish English that means “weary or exhausted.” So “wabbit” is how Elmer Fudd feels after chasing that elusive Bugs Bunny around the forest all day.

Just go to the bottom of the page and add a new post. BTW I like your word.
