G'Day Riddle Masters! And Happy Monday!

I hope you're all ready for the first riddle of the week because my oh my, it's a tough one! Here it goes:

Four tots were playing in the Kindergarten sandpit. “I notice that all of them but one has a number on his back," said a visitor. "Jack has 2, Benjamin 6, Leslie 6 and Brian 4. From those clues, I think I can deduce what number Terrence should carry." Can you?

Not an easy one to start the week with, but you know we love throwing in a challenging riddle!

0. There’s no Terrance

There was 4 tots in the sandpit and each had a number. If one did not have a number, then there should have been 5 tots!!??

there are only 4 tots and all had a number. Nothing says Terence is a tot or will go in the sand pit too. Terence could be the visitor or the teacher. Therefore Terence doesn't need a number.

Jack one vowel x2 = 2
Benjamin 3 vowels x2 = 6
Leslie 3 vowels x 2 = 6
Brian 2 vowels x2 = 4
Therefore Terrence is 3 vowels =6

None. The four tots are already accounted for.

I have a problem with the emailed correct answer, in that 4 kids were in sandpit and they all had a number, therefore where does Terence fit in? He wasn't in the sandpit! So saying what would his number be how could he have a number as he was mentioned as being present. If it had said 5 in the playground and one didn't have a number only the 4 in the sandpit, then yes Terence can be included in the count, but he makes child no 5. This riddle was misleading....as I believe many also saw it this way too.

I'm with you, Jennylolo.
I even ran it by my PhD student son.
He also said it was misleading.....
The puzzle states that out of the 4 kids in the sandpit, one didn't have a number on his back,
but it gave us all their numbers. We don't know which child in the sandpit wasn't wearing his allocated number, which go with the number of vowels in their name.
Terrence is not in the sandpit.....
So....? miscommunication?
? Misinterpretation?
Was a bit of fun trying to work it out tho, but not happy with the answer either.
