Inspired to flip the direction your dryer door opens? It’s not that easy — or recommended

One of the things we like about the internet is the abundance of information available. That includes life hacks that, at least in theory, save us time and make life easier!
We’ve learned techniques for everything from folding fitted sheets to saving money on haircuts through short articles or short-form videos.
Having said all that, while many online tricks can generate oohs and aahs, not all life hacks are possible or proven to work. We hate to break it to you, but some experts even warn against doing them altogether!
Such is the case for the laundry hack shared by Emily and Lucas on the video-sharing app TikTok that recently went viral. See the video for yourself below.
The post accompanied by the Stranger Things theme showed Lucas swapping the dryer door from one side to the other.
Apparently, there are holes on both sides of the machine where screws can be attached. All you have to do is unscrew the door from the current side it is on and then move it to the other,
‘Consider [your] mind blown,’ the couple shared.
Another comment of theirs on the post said, ‘I guess this is one of those things you never think to check when you’ve had the same appliances for 18 years…’
The trick seems nifty, especially for owners who find the position of their dryers awkward.
But while it looks easy, not all dryers allow this. It would depend on the manufacturer and the model. That means you must read the manual or contact the supplier to ensure you can do it without destroying the machine and voiding your warranty.
And even then, a screwdriver won’t always cut it. For many dryers, flipping the doors requires a reversing kit.
What’s more, the life hack isn’t always recommended as it could affect the functions of your dryer. If you’re not careful, the tweak could render your dryer useless.
We know what you’re thinking — the technique might be more trouble than it’s worth.
Ashley Iredale from CHOICE, the leading consumer advocacy group in Australia, said they do not generally recommend using a screwdriver to modify electrical appliances.
Speaking with 9Entertainment, Ashley elaborated, ‘One of the things you will have with a clothes dryer is a sensor in the latch mechanism that will stop the dryer if the door opens, so you need to be conscious of maintaining that if you're modifying it at all.’
If you really have to switch the dryer door, the best thing to do is to hire an appliance technician. You can avoid wiring problems and more in the machine.
It’s better to be safe than sorry, right?
Plus, a new appliance would cost much more than a technician.
Moreover, you can also be more mindful of where to install your dryer, which could avoid any frustrations when doing your laundry.
The optimal method is to position the washing machine and the dryer in a way that allows you to put your items straight from one to the other.
This can mean installing them side by side, or putting your dryer above the washing machine. If the control panel is on the top portion of the dryer, you can usually invert the control panel so that the buttons are easier to access.
What do you think? Have you ever tried any life hacks you’ve discovered through the internet? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
