Former TV presenter Andrew O’Keefe gets arrested after he allegedly assaulted and choked a woman

Former television host Andrew O'Keefe was arrested on Thursday following an alleged physical aggression towards a 38-year-old woman.

It was reported that the 50-year-old TV personality was accused of "assaulting and choking" the woman before punching, pushing, and kicking her to the ground in a Sydney CBD unit on Tuesday.

Police said that the woman formally reported the alleged incident on Wednesday.

The former TV presenter was charged with six offences, including two counts of intentionally choking a person without consent, three counts of common assault, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was also due to appear at Central Local Court on Friday after he was refused bail.

The arrest of O'Keefe has not been peaceful as he shouted at reporters covering the scene.

“I’m a victim of crime,” he yelled, asking the police to “get rid of these f****** journalists”.

It should be noted that the TV personality was one of the founders of the White Ribbon Foundation — a domestic violence charity where he served as a chairman in 2017.

The organisation — which went into liquidation in 2019 — did not give any comments regarding the matter.

O'Keefe is also a former lawyer and son of former NSW Supreme Court judge Barry O'Keefe.

As a victor of Domestic Violence myself, this incident brought back too many memories to the top of my memory bank.
Having been a victim of an attempted strangulation in 1993, this had me in tears.
In March last year, after my first Astrazeneca vaccination, I suffered from a swollen submandibular salivary gland in my throat.
I suffered from the same issue when I was having radiotherapy for breast cancer years ago, so was not concerned, assuming it was my body's reaction to "stress".
Prior to orthopaedic surgery in September, I was required to have a CT scan on my throat to ensure the throat swelling was nothing sinister.
This was found to be so, and the swelling is still there, may take 18 months to disappear. Just my body dealing with the antigens.
However, I was referred to an oro maxillofacial specialist.
The CT scan also showed deformities in the hyoid bone , styloid process and mastoid process, indicative of damage caused by the attempted strangulation in 1993, recognised by the Specialist.
The bruises have faded, the broken bones have healed, the mental anguish can be disguised, but I now know I have permanent proof of one episode of the suffering I endured.

About time ...to think he was an advocate of victims of crime/violence against women. It is very obvious he has serious mental health issues!

So sorry life has dealt you such a cruel hand. I hope your life ahead is full of love and light.

Grateful thanks, SalMc.
Your kind thoughts mean so much.
The highs of your life come with you, the lows of your life also come with you, and make you the person you are today.
One doesn't choose to marry into domestic violence or coercive control, the perpetrators are so devious. They appear as upright citizens in the world.....but God knows.
God is their Judge.

I just wish that Andrew O'Keefe would remember to take his medication everyday then he would not have these anger problems and save everyone a lot of heartache

Was never my cup of tea at all...disliked him as compere of The Chase and glad he was replaced.

Those sufferings with Mental issues need support rather than criticism from all.
Look around, bet you can't guess who is suffering in silence and too afraid to ask for professional help.
Yes looks are deceiving!!!!!!!
YES, LOOKS ARE Deceiving...... I didn't mind Andrew O'keefe on the Chase, but I didn't know He was a Lawyer , and He had mental Issues.. I don't think Andrew will be on any Television screens for a long time apart from when He is at court etc...

It isn't like this a one off occurrence, really, he's done it before and people are feeling sorry for him. As far as I'm concerned he should go to jail like any other criminal. Let him feel the pain of being incarcerated because he certainly should not still hold his licence to practice law.

When is something going to be done to monitor people with mental health issues. People like O'keefe should be able to afford to pay for this measure and make sure that they stay on their meds. How many will progress to actually killing someone.
