there are plenty of apps available that give the price of products in all the majors, download that and then, for those that have the time, do the rounds. We all know the 'I'm going elsewhere' is not going to be the result. I question every comment on this site about price gouging etc. Does no one on here drive a car and see how much fuel? Diesel in particular has gone up and not come down for almost 2 years now. Personally, I've rarely found Aldi that cheap that it's worth getting a few things there only to find I need to finish it off at one of the majors. It's all but impossible to compare house brand products with market leader items. Woollies and Coles sell every item made by the market leaders under their own house brands, which are more often than not the same as the repackage Aldi housebrand. Alternatively, the know brands are often imported, coffee being the best example of this, Aldi sells Nescafe that is imported from Indonesia, totally different taste. Frozen veggies predominantly come from Belgium. I personally prefer to support Australia workers and buy Aust made before I'll buy an imported frozen item. This can also be a consideration of the carbon footprint transporting from 1 side of the world to the other.

C'mon peeps its the bloody same everywhere, If you dont like the charge for the labour for removing the skin then buy the skin on product and skin it your self.... even woolies and coles and most other fish retailers do the same.... Do those that complain scan and pack their own groceries thinking that they are getting something for free

I do, as part of my price checking I have the three Majors within walking distance so I can price-compare between them. I make a list and shop for the cheapest items at all three. So there is no SIMPLE when it comes to my hard-earned money...

I do exactly the same thing, I still think it's simple. Much better than whinging and complaining and stressing yourself out. But on the whole I still get the bulk of my shop from Aldi.
I have the Cole's and Woolies apps and do all my price checking before I leave home. I also have the 3 majors within a hop, skip and jump from each other.

I have noticed that the price of salmon has sky rocketed everywhere. All the large seafood shops and at all the other supermarkets. Though whether the prices changed overnight I'm not sure.

90% of Tasmanian salmon is farmed. More than a tonne of antibiotics were used on 2 farms which had an outbreak of disease in 2022.

We do not have Aldi in our area so do not shop there
But seeing that the Government has NOT as yet been able to identify the source of the current LISTERIA outbreak Aldi may be doing their customers a favour, as fish is a possible food source and at present is off my list.

I was expecting this as soon as they put in self serve checkouts at my local Mudgeeraba store. It will increase theft and then that will be passed on to the customers just like in Coles and Woolworths. I have noticed the increases especially pet food. Here in Port Pirie South Australia our ALDI is cheaper on selective items for a few weeks then they price the item to be one cent cheaper than the competition, yes they can still maintain that they are cheaper but we are not stupid. One item that sticks and makes my blood boil is Salada crackers which were forty cents cheaper than the competition now they are one cent cheaper, Cadbury Chocolate is six dollars, and ALDI is five dollars ninety-nine. Yes while they still are the cheapest but one cent on popular items give me a break not everyone is stupid.

I find that I am able to buy everything I need from Aldi including meat for 2 & all my grocery needs For a lot less than any other supermarket in my local complex. For 2 pensioners this is a bonus especially as we rent & the rent has gone up twice this year from $400.00 a week to 550.00 a week & then we are expected to leave at the end of our lease in 6 weeks' time & finding a house on one level for me is proving hard & expensive.

I have noticed that the price of salmon has sky rocketed everywhere. All the large seafood shops and at all the other supermarkets. Though whether the prices changed overnight I'm not sure.

I have noticed price rises. Still cheaper than the big two though. Honestly folks we can’t expect prices to stay the same if they are buying at a higher price. I am just grateful to get the goods I want cheaper even bye a small amount. If like salmon to big a hike I can’t afford it so don’t buy it. Even seafood shops have upped the cost.
For the moment still with Aldi.

I backed off from using Aldi a few months ago. I have to travel 67 kilometres to get there. With the price of fuel, I ended up spending more. Prices in Aldi jumped about ten months ago, and I have monitored them. Sorry, they are slowly becoming a no-no—especially their fruit and veg. If it was not for the hardware in the centre of the store you would have nothing but another IGA, another rip-off crew.

Aldi didn't start charging like a wounded bull, at the same time as the other big two did. Eventually, they had to increase their prices. I pay attention to their extra specials, in food lines, and buy a few if they have a long life span.
I know not everyone can buy in bulk but I religiously scan the catalogues for half price specials and buy up enough to last until the next time they come on special. It doesn't stop the price rises but it does mean that I never have to pay full price. I note a number of comments here about seafood price hikes. Once again I never buy prawns unless they are half price, I&J large frozen ones are good and I bought them when they were $12 per 500g. Prawns are a luxury and fresh ones cost the earth so I don't buy them except on special occasions. I think that is the other point to make is that there are are lot of items bought these days that normally would have been considered luxuries. You literally have to cut your suit according to your cloth. It's all about doing what it takes to maximise the value of your spending. Complaining about having to do it changes nothing, it just causes stress.

I don’t have to worry about seafood prices as I have a reaction to all of them and my husband does not like seafood at all. So , simple for me . A lot of fruit prices have come down at Aldi and vegetables as well . The strawberries I bought at Aldi were very good quality , bought also strawberries at Woollies a few days later , they had to be eaten quickly and the Aldi once’s still fresh. Often I buy strawberries from the local farmer , they are dearer , but last longer and better quality , no white bits at the top.
I shop first at Aldi , then go elsewhere , usually Woollies as no Coles in my area.
We just have to put up with the increase of prices , everything is going to be dearer , petrol , insurance , car rego , health insurance , travel , just to mention a few. We still need to live and make the best of it.

How does that count for the sharp rise in aldi dog and cat food, and other staples that are notfresh food?

Higher power prices to process, higher fuel costs to transport, higher wages, higher taxes and higher farm costs. They all apply to each of the farmer, the transporter to the factory, the factory, transport to the supermarket and the supermarket. Take your pick

Well Well Well. Have you not all realised that everything goes up!
We have everyone wanting wages raised so everything we buy MUST go up. Transport is not free. Transport companies have to pay wage increases manufacturers also and then we have the people who work in the stores to serve us. It's like a dog chasing its tail. It will never stop while we keep wanting higher wages.
