Best Budget Buys - Share your favourite budget supermarket buy, and you could win $100

Happy March!

I can hardly believe it's already time for the third monthly competition of 2024. Where did the time go?

This month's competition is all about your favourite budget supermarket buys! Have you found something that works as well/ tastes as good as a branded alternative, for a fraction of the price? Tell us about it!

Let's help one another save money!

Share your pick, why you recommend it, and where you bought it, in the comments below to be in the running.

Our favourite answer will win a $100 voucher to a supermarket of your choice (Coles, Woolies).

Entries close Sunday, March 31st, 11:59 pm.

Not a supermarket but a superbutcher. This week they have Chicken wings $2.99kg. They have a deal 5 meals for $50 each week also..this week it contains: 600g Wagu schnitzel,
14 beef sausages, 800g pork & beef mince, 800g chicken burgers & 400g porterhouse steaks. I think they are great deals. Always quality too.

For D I Y ERS. On Saturday March 9 ALDI will have DECO decking/ furniture oil on sale. It's actually made by Wattyl, and only costs $40 for 4 litres. That's a lot less than other well known brands and gives a great finish.

If you are into ice creams, IGA regularly puts on specials for Cornettos. A box of 24 for $20.
Also, they often have Bulla specials, the latest being a box of mixed ice blocks 20 for $13.
Both of these are quality picks and not the how's your father watered down pretend stuff.
My husband loves it when they come around. If the budget allows, we indulge occasionally and have a lot of fun spreading the contents of the box in all the nooks and crannies in the freezer.
This is something they put on regularly and are great money savers.

Fresh and Save regularly offers frozen salmon pieces on special for $12 per kg. A kg of salmon goes a long way so this works out much cheaper than any meat, even the humble sausage. And it's super healthy and tasty.

Have all the boxes the same size if possible and wrap all your glass ware in your linen that way you use less paper and your linen gets packed with your breakables
Extra padding 😁

It’s a bit hard to take advantage of buying in bulk when you live by yourself. So form a small group with family, friends or neighbours to buy in bulk and share the cost and the products. Can be especially beneficial when buying bigger items such as meat which is often much less expensive in the bigger packs.

We started buying Indian bulk foods from the Spice Merchants and have cut our food bill from $25 per day to $18 per day. By adding a few vegetables we are eating nutritious meals.

It's hard to find a bargain these days to be honest, as I remember back 20 years ago I used to shop at BuyLo where you could get a medium Roast for 6.95 but these days they are all above 20 dollars and sadly all I can afford is can food and these never any bargains there so sorry to say but I can't find any bargains to recommend other than the best can food to eat is braise stake and onion so if your struggling to survive like I am them that's my go to food as it's always cheap at $2 a can.

Going meat free a couple of nights per week with a bean and vegetable curry saves money. I buy canned beans from Coles at $1 each plus some canned tomatoes and curry paste (buy two jars when it's on sale). Add coconut milk or yoghurt and any left over or special priced vegetables. Rice is very cheap if you cook it yourself in a rice cooker versus the microwave pouches. I tend to shop at both Coles and Aldi to take advantage of any specials.

We shop at Super Butcher and have done since they first opened.

i love Essentials coconut cream and Woolworths tomatoe soup. Great taste both thick so good for sauces in cooking and only about $1.10 a can. You can buy quite a few in bulk without breaking your budget. The best is taste and quality are high and very useful
