A Poem To Which We Can Relate

I remember the corned beef of my Childhood,
And the bread that we cut with a knife,
When the Children helped with the housework,
And the men went to work not the wife.

The cheese never needed a fridge,
And the bread was so crusty and hot,
The Children were seldom unhappy,
And the Wife was content with her lot.

I remember the milk from the bottle,
With the yummy cream on the top,
Our dinner came hot from the oven,
And not from a freezer; or shop.

The kids were a lot more contented,
They didn't need money for kicks,
Just a game with their friends in the road,
And sometimes the Saturday flicks

I remember the shop on the corner,
Where biscuits for pennies were sold
Do you think I'm a bit too nostalgic?
Or is it....I'm just getting Old?

Bathing was done in a wash tub,
With plenty of rich foamy suds
But the ironing seemed never ending
As Mum pressed everyone's 'duds'.

I remember the slap on my backside,
And the taste of soap if I swore
Anorexia and diets weren't heard of
And we hadn't much choice what we wore.

Do you think that bruised our ego?
Or our initiative was destroyed?
We ate what was put on the table
And I think life was better enjoyed.

So correct, and it was such a good life, people were more content, less stressed, just got on with life, had the time to stop for a neighbourly chat or lend a hand.No whinging about every little thing, no constant rushing about, trying to have everything and more than everyone else. A lot less crime and no blaming “mental health or bad family life” if you did commit a crime. How things have changed.

Relatable and very true. A time when A.I. meant All In & you were never left out or left alone. A.I. today is all about the most likes by people you don't even know & you really are all alone.

...but it's too late, mate. We have let the changes come, and now the past has passed forever, it's time to let the children have their fun.

Well, we start with Sliced Bread.
They were the days that we had all the above PLUS
Warts
Boils
Carbuncles
Bad Breath
Rotting teeth
Enemas
Worms
Polio
Measles
Chicken Pox
Head Lice in schools
Tuberculosis
Tetanus
No Vaccines for so many problems
GIVE ME THE DAYS FROM 1960s ONWARDS. BTW 1972-5 Our Dollar was worth a Dollar and worth more than the USD.
No Taxes for so many things ..

Stamp Duty
Tobacco Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Income Tax
Council Tax
Unemployment Tax
Fishing Licence Tax
Petrol/Diesel Tax
Inheritance Tax
(tax on top of tax)
Alcohol Tax
G.S.T.
Property Tax
Service charge taxes
Social Security Tax
Vehicle Licence / Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Workers Compensation Tax

Carbon Dioxide Tax

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 60 years ago and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.

How True ! Brings back so many memories 😊

There is without a doubt times that were bad, not as much knowledge about medicines and hygiene, however things were simpler, easier, you understood that your parents did the very best for you. You had manners, respect, food on the table, friends to play with, laughter etc. Yes thing were hard but you all pulled together, neighbours watched out for each others kids, watched the neighbourhood for strangers and were not afraid of asking a stranger what they were doing. Don't get me wrong I am pleased that there are a lot more modern things for us to use, better education regarding health and hygiene, but to get this we have lost what is important in the world. Love, honesty, being reliable and responsible and mostly giving a dam about humanity.
