It is so true !
Growing up on a farm , there was never a dull moment , helping out on the land where the neighbours were there to help each other as well and after all that hard work , shared a meal together.
Climbing trees , picking apples and cherries from the yard and share them around with the neighbours and making lots of apple sauce and cherry jam. We had many chickens and milk from the cows . Fields with potatoes and around September it was time to get them out and Dad told many to people in town , even put them himself underneath the house , where it was dark and cool. (y):D

And you could walk down the street without fear of colliding
with an oncoming face buried in a mobile phone.
I refuse to move for someone walking with their head buried in a mobile phone. Bump into me and it will be your fault, not mine!!

Well, we start with Sliced Bread.
They were the days that we had all the above PLUS
Warts
Boils
Carbuncles
Bad Breath
Rotting teeth
Enemas
Worms
Polio
Measles
Chicken Pox
Head Lice in schools
Tuberculosis
Tetanus
No Vaccines for so many problems
GIVE ME THE DAYS FROM 1960s ONWARDS. BTW 1972-5 Our Dollar was worth a Dollar and worth more than the USD.
No Taxes for so many things ..

Stamp Duty
Tobacco Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Income Tax
Council Tax
Unemployment Tax
Fishing Licence Tax
Petrol/Diesel Tax
Inheritance Tax
(tax on top of tax)
Alcohol Tax
G.S.T.
Property Tax
Service charge taxes
Social Security Tax
Vehicle Licence / Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Workers Compensation Tax

Carbon Dioxide Tax

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 60 years ago and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.
So, so true - who's pocketing all those taxes now, I wonder? Wages cannot keep up with inflation, houses for rent NIL, and we are getting poorer (or at least our children and grandchildren are struggling so much now).

There is without a doubt times that were bad, not as much knowledge about medicines and hygiene, however things were simpler, easier, you understood that your parents did the very best for you. You had manners, respect, food on the table, friends to play with, laughter etc. Yes thing were hard but you all pulled together, neighbours watched out for each others kids, watched the neighbourhood for strangers and were not afraid of asking a stranger what they were doing. Don't get me wrong I am pleased that there are a lot more modern things for us to use, better education regarding health and hygiene, but to get this we have lost what is important in the world. Love, honesty, being reliable and responsible and mostly giving a dam about humanity.
You must have been my next-door neighbour.

A Poem To Which We Can Relate

I remember the corned beef of my Childhood,
And the bread that we cut with a knife,
When the Children helped with the housework,
And the men went to work not the wife.

The cheese never needed a fridge,
And the bread was so crusty and hot,
The Children were seldom unhappy,
And the Wife was content with her lot.

I remember the milk from the bottle,
With the yummy cream on the top,
Our dinner came hot from the oven,
And not from a freezer; or shop.

The kids were a lot more contented,
They didn't need money for kicks,
Just a game with their friends in the road,
And sometimes the Saturday flicks

I remember the shop on the corner,
Where biscuits for pennies were sold
Do you think I'm a bit too nostalgic?
Or is it....I'm just getting Old?

Bathing was done in a wash tub,
With plenty of rich foamy suds
But the ironing seemed never ending
As Mum pressed everyone's 'duds'.

I remember the slap on my backside,
And the taste of soap if I swore
Anorexia and diets weren't heard of
And we hadn't much choice what we wore.

Do you think that bruised our ego?
Or our initiative was destroyed?
We ate what was put on the table
And I think life was better enjoyed.

The thing that strikes me most is the decline in personal responsibility. When I was growing up, if you made a mistake, you wore it and you learned from it. Nowadays it seems that the first thing people do when they make a mistake is look for someone else to blame. For example, there have been a number of cases reported here lately for parking illegally and instead of taking responsibility and saying "I should have known better" (because that rule was covered during the training for a driver's licence) or "I won't make that mistake again", they rush to the media with "It's not my fault... It's the greedy council... It's lack of signage...and, best of all, "I've been doing it for ages and haven't been caught before".

And watching "Skippy the Bush Kangaroo"... what a treat that was, yet so simple by today's standards.

I remember those days and it was so much better than today even my eldest son who is over 60 says those days were better

I just went to the bank to open a new account. I was told, "You have to wait at least a week for an appointment and the next available appointment is Tuesday week". So I tried two other banks - exact same story! When I asked why, it was allegedly because they are short-staffed. Well, of course they are - it is the bank's policy to operate on a skeleton crew despite the inconvenience to the customer. Remember the days when you could walk into a bank and open an account right there and then. It seems that, despite the wonders of technology, customer service was considerably better last century than it is this century.

P.S. Edited to add - another thing that annoys me is that the bank gives you no choice or alternatives, so you HAVE to comply with their policies, and they use the fact that people are following their policies as justification that those policies are obviously working.

I think it was because people cared about other people in those days!

I was never aware of a case of headlice when I was at school (the 60's and 70's) and I never had a case of it myself. But the minute my daughter started school, it became a regular occurrence because some of the families in the school would not treat it with "chemicals" but instead favoured "natural" solutions, which, of course, did not work so their kids were regular sources of re-infestation.

Edited to add: when I was at school, our heads were regularly inspected by "the nit nurse" from the Health Department. I can't swear to it but I am pretty sure that if they detected a case of headlice, the child was sent home and the parents were made to deal with it. I am pretty sure that arguments against chemicals, infringement of personal liberties and/or the privacy act would not have been indulged by the authorities.

Income tax was introduced in Australia a lot more than sixty years ago.
