A major change is coming to AusPost's delivery policies this Christmas – here's what you need to know

Christmas is the busiest time of the year for Australia Post. Last December, AusPost saw a whopping 52 million parcels delivered across the country and this year is expected to be just as busy.

To make sure tens of millions of Christmas gifts, groceries and treats make it safely and on time, Australia Post has announced a major shakeup to their delivery policies in the lead-up to the festive season.

From Saturday, November 18th, weekend deliveries will begin in all metro capital cities and a range of regional centres around Australia offering customers a much needed helping hand to ensure their gifts don't fall victim to last-minute delivery blunders.

Australia Post Executive Manager Gary Starr says they're expecting another big surge in parcels this year, and the weekend plan is just one way the team are supporting customers during the busiest time of the year.

'As the sales events ramp up and online shopping surges in the lead up to Christmas, our temporary Saturday and Sunday service is just another way we are supporting our customers at the busiest time of the year,' Mr Starr says.

However, to guarantee a gift in time for Santa's arrival, Australia Post recommends customers send their parcels by Monday, December 18th for most locations within Australia or by Thursday, December 21st for express post. To SDC members sending to or from Western Australia and Northern Territory, be sure to allow for a few extra days to ensure Santa pays a visit by Christmas morning.

The team have also sweetened the deal by adding free 24/7 collection to their lockers, so customers don't have to wait in line to collect missed deliveries.

'We've been preparing for another big sales and festive season, including recruiting thousands of additional team members, and giving customers more convenient delivery options,' Mr Starr adds.

Of course this doesn't actually mean they will 'deliver' but just leave a note to tell you to go to the post office to pick up. I hate it when goods I purchase are sent by Aus Post - as I have never had anything actually delivered to me. Excuses like, unsure as to where to leave bike, too big to put on bike (??) I just call it laziness. Don't belive they are doing us any additional service

Wow. They have been doing that for over 45 years. The big impressive trick for them to accomplish, is actually delivering a proper service. So they can downsize the Customer Complaints department.

When you think about the massive number of Parcels that they must handle across the whole of the Country at this special time of the year....I think that they do a good job overall, sure there are some that don't make their final destination on time, but certainly the majority appear to do so. The earlier that you post off your parcels for Christmas the better chance you have of them being delivered on time to your loved ones.🤔🎅🎄😉

I don't mail gifts.
It is too much of a worry that the item will get to who it is meant to.
When close family members moved to Kalgoorlie, I sent a Xmas parcel once and it got there, but I was so stressed about it I changed my ways.
Now, the only things that go by mail at Xmas are cards. I do like sending them by mail.
My family moved back, close enough to make face to face contact.
If I find I need to buy a gift for someone who is out of my range, they get an E-gift card. Main reason for this is surety of delivery, and, confidence they will be used on things they like or need.
