Christmas is the busiest time of the year for Australia Post. Last December, AusPost saw a whopping 52 million parcels delivered across the country and this year is expected to be just as busy.
To make sure tens of millions of Christmas gifts, groceries and treats make it safely and on time, Australia Post has announced a major shakeup to their delivery policies in the lead-up to the festive season.
From Saturday, November 18th, weekend deliveries will begin in all metro capital cities and a range of regional centres around Australia offering customers a much needed helping hand to ensure their gifts don't fall victim to last-minute delivery blunders.
Australia Post Executive Manager Gary Starr says they're expecting another big surge in parcels this year, and the weekend plan is just one way the team are supporting customers during the busiest time of the year.
'As the sales events ramp up and online shopping surges in the lead up to Christmas, our temporary Saturday and Sunday service is just another way we are supporting our customers at the busiest time of the year,' Mr Starr says.
However, to guarantee a gift in time for Santa's arrival, Australia Post recommends customers send their parcels by Monday, December 18th for most locations within Australia or by Thursday, December 21st for express post. To SDC members sending to or from Western Australia and Northern Territory, be sure to allow for a few extra days to ensure Santa pays a visit by Christmas morning.
The team have also sweetened the deal by adding free 24/7 collection to their lockers, so customers don't have to wait in line to collect missed deliveries.
'We've been preparing for another big sales and festive season, including recruiting thousands of additional team members, and giving customers more convenient delivery options,' Mr Starr adds.
Amid growing concerns about e-commerce, shopping online and tracking delivery has become more important than ever, with some customers opting for lockers to ensure their packages get delivered safely.
So, if you're planning on doing your Christmas shopping online this year, keep an eye out for Australia Post's weekend delivery service from November 18th. With the free 24/7 collection offered at their lockers and the new weekend delivery option, things are about to get a lot easier!
