Turns out, toothpaste is pretty important! Toothpaste helps to remove plaque and bacteria from our teeth, and it also helps to prevent cavities. Who’d have thought?

When choosing a toothpaste, be sure to look for one that contains fluoride. Fluoride helps to protect our teeth against cavities and decay. You may also want to choose a toothpaste that contains whitening agents if you are looking to brighten your smile.

But, what you might not have known is that toothpaste can do so much more than just clean teeth.

You read that right, folks! These easy hacks demonstrate toothpaste's versatility and show how it can be used to clean everything from jewellery to shoes.

Toothpaste Tip 1: Removing Permanent Marker

If you've ever accidentally marked something using a permanent marker, then you know how frustrating it can be to try and remove it. But did you know that toothpaste can actually do the trick? Just apply the toothpaste over the area you want to erase and rub it with tissue until the ink disappears.

Toothpaste Tip 2: Polishing Tarnished Jewellery

If your silver jewellery has lost its lustre, then toothpaste can help bring it back to life. Squeeze a blob of toothpaste onto a toothbrush and scrub the jewellery before wiping it off with a towel. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes!

Toothpaste Tip 3: Cleaning White Shoes

Toothpaste can also be used to keep your white shoes looking clean and new. Just squeeze some toothpaste onto a toothbrush and gently scrub the shoes before wiping them clean with a cloth.

Toothpaste Tip 4: Whitening A Computer Keyboard

If your computer keyboard is looking a bit grubby, then toothpaste can help to clean it up. Just dab a small amount of toothpaste onto a cloth and wipe it over the keys.

Since we’re on the topic of using toothpaste for various purposes, one dentist has debunked some of the most common claims about using the oral hygiene product for…basically anything.

Dental student Anthony Baroud, who runs the YouTube page Dental Digest, has shared a video proving that not all “crafty” projects using toothpaste actually work.

One of the “hacks” includes cleaning the lens of your camera or phone by rubbing a burnt egg shell and toothpaste on the surface of the lens.

Anthony said that the tip is counterproductive as it scratches the lens instead of cleaning it.

Decades ago, I cleaned some crayon from a friend's wall using a tiny dab of toothpaste on my finger and rubbing it gently to as not to scratch the paint.
Worked a treat for her. It was a hint Martha Gardener had given over the radio on 3AW.
