Woolies shopper divides fellow customers online after sharing 'markdown' haul – what are your thoughts?

A Woolworths shopper has caused quite a stir online after sharing a photo of her huge markdown haul of heavily discounted fish.

In the popular Facebook group Markdown Addicts Australia, the woman admitted that she bought 'every single packet' of discounted premium salmon and trout that had been marked down from $11 to just $1.10 in her local supermarket.

The photo she posted on the group shows her trolley filled with 16 packets of fish, along with the caption: "My turn to get lucky today."

However, the woman's post was met with rather aggressive comments from some fellow shoppers, with some users calling her "greedy" and "selfish" for buying everything on the shelves and not leaving some for people who were also in need of affordable and discounted seafood.

"Imagine being that selfish, how embarrassing," one woman wrote in the comments section, with another agreeing and saying: "There are certainly some greedy people around these days."

A third user joined in the conversation, adding: "Yes, good price. But wouldn't it be nice to leave some for someone else?"

"Putting a few packets back could've fed another family for the night but no one thinks of others these days," said a fourth.

The majority of the users who commented on the woman's post came to her defence and defended the mum's decision to buy all the remaining marked down stocks. Many even admitted that they would do the same if they were the ones in the situation.

"These days with the cost of food rising, who wouldn’t grab a bargain?" wrote one user. "Well done, that's awesome!"

Another added: "Good on you for grabbing them all. I would've done the same."

"Excellent score! Better eaten than ending up in landfills," said a third. "You never know, if you didn’t pick up all of these, they could very well have gone in the bin tonight!"

Other members of the Facebook group advised the woman to check the quality of her seafood buys first before cooking them as some may have already gone bad.

"Make sure you smell it before eating. Every time we've frozen and defrosted discounted salmon it's been off," said one user.

What are your thoughts, folks? Was the woman reasonable for buying all the discounted stocks of premium seafood? Or do you think she should have left some for other shoppers?

Good on her I say, I have been into Aldi stores where the local Chinese Shop has walked out with ALL the Cauliflower's and ALL the Broccoli in a couple of trollies at times, does this garner any comment, nope, so if I wanted some Colly or Broccoli bad luck.

Bet the ones saying she was greedy and selfish would of only taken one pkt themselves????????
Good on her not often these days you get a bargian, and who knows her circumstances, she could have a large family or people she is sharing her bounty with.

The shop just wants this stuff gone, they don't care whether one person buys it all or a dozen buy a little each. Obviously the woman who bought it all thinks she can use it before it goes bad, good on her for being in the right place at the right time. Not sure that I would have splashed it all over social media, especially as we know it's not always social. I would have just basked in my good fortune and kept the details to myself.

From the photo, it looks as though there are several markdown stickers on each packet.
Seems as if the store had marked them down earlier, and as they had not sold, they marked them down again to clear them, possibly close to closing time. So the shopper got a true bargain, but saved them from being thrown out, it seems.
I'd be very cautious though.....after freezing salmon, then thawing.....check that it's not on the nose or slimy.

A great buy that’s for sure but she was a very selfish person to have taken all of them!!! Considering it was salmon , possibly haven already been frozen & thawed it would be very close to being inedible & probably have gone bad if not all used by the next day! So she would need to have a very large family of fish lovers!! Bargains like this should have a limit of items at each purchase so everyone has a fair go!

It is nice to share. Give to others? Leave some behind for others? There are other people in the world apart from you who have little or nothing and as one person said this would feed a needy family.

Obviously nobody else was very interested as they had been steadily reduced in price over a long period of time. At that price would have been very close to "in the bin." So kudos to her saving land fill.

Yes I would guess it was close to closing time by all the mark down stickers and they would be more than likely be ditching it that night if it did not sell but if it was me buying it all I would be sure I could cook it all up that night and then freeze the cooked portions for meals at a later time a much safer option than freezing fresh and defrosting as it can still go off as the domestic freezers don't freeze instantly or fast and I would also inspect each portion very closely before cooking for smell and feel and if in any doubt would ditch.
