I totally agree , people In public housing should be made to downsize , why should one person or a couple have a 3 bedroom house when there are so many families needing a house
I think people think once they are in a public housing , it's theirs forever . It's there to help them and as their family leave home then they should be moved to a smaller property . It is after all public housing
Problem is state governments drag their feet , public housing has been left vacant for months in qld, they don’t do checks on who goes in the homes , in my street there are 2 x3 b/room homes and 2 x 2 b/ room units, , one home has undesirables coming and going ,brawls , drunks etc, one unit has a person drug etc ,police are constantly there at both places, the same home the property looks like a rubbish dump and authorities seem to be blind to what happens ,which devalues our homes as well.

I believe if you could use extra cash Reverse Mortgage is the way to go.
No, you won't have another mortgage.
No, you won't put yourself in debt.
Yes, you do pay interest, say you take a$200.000 loan you pay around 4% compound interest.
When you die or sell then the interest becomes payable.
What are you going to-do with the cash living in an old Folks home??
If your home is worth $600.000 to $800.000 there would be plenty left over for the Kids to share.
Let' face it, they don't won't the house they will want to get the cash.
I spoke to my daughter about when I'm gone, she said "can I have Mums jewellery as a keepsake,
and that's it nothing else, you worked hard for your wealth you should spend and enjoy what time you have left".
We are proud of our daughter!
not for everyone but it is good concept for those who need (only take out what you need) extra funds to help fund a better retirement, get good advice and learn more about how it works before you decide if it's for you

Well here's one for you. The CEO of Westfarmers mother occupies a homes west flat!
 
We took out a Home Equity Loan through Centrelink; Because we have a rental property we were able to take the loan using that property, which means even if somehow it all goes pear-shaped, we still have a roof over our heads! We pay 3.9% compound mortgage. Nothing is payable until that property is sold - it now has a caveat on it - but as we don't have anyone in particular to leave our properties to and we were struggling on our part-pensions, this has been a terrific solution for us.

I own my own home in the country and would like to get a loan to buy the empty block next to me, would this type of mortgage work for me? I owe nothing on my home and property, I own it 100% outright! I can't get a loan because I am now 76 years of age and the banks aren't interested in giving loans out to us oldies! Even though the block next door would be an added asset the banks are just too damn greedy to allow an aged pensioner to take out a mortgage, so I have been told!
