We've been using dishwashing tablets wrong this whole time - no wonder our dishes have been coming out dirty!

If you're anything like us here at the Seniors Discount Club, you're probably always on the lookout for ways to make your life a little bit easier.

That's why we're so grateful for dishwashing tablets – they make doing the dishes a breeze! No more scrubbing away at dirty pots and pans; just pop in a tablet, start the cycle, and let the dishwasher do the hard work.

However, it seems that we may have been using this handy appliance wrong this whole time.

An Aussie mum recently took to social media to share a controversial dishwashing tablet tip, and let's just say, we were pretty surprised.

Taking to the Mums Who Clean Facebook page, she stunned fellow Aussies by claiming that she never puts her dishwashing tablet in the allocated compartment.

Instead, she simply throws it in the bottom of the dishwasher before starting the cycle.

The mum explained that she received this advice from a dishwasher service worker, who told her that this is the preferred method for using dishwashing tablets.

‘A repairman came out to look at my dishwasher and said it was best to just put the tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher,’ she wrote on the Mums Who Clean Facebook page.

‘It’s so much easier than putting it in the compartment, and worrying about whether it opens or not. And cleans perfectly every time.’

Many others came forward saying they’d received similar advice.

‘I was told by a dishwasher technician that the tablets don’t necessarily get dissolved in the compartment and sometimes leave the inner red bits glued onto the compartment,’ one person commented.

‘By putting it on the bottom of the machine it’s completely dissolved.’

Another wrote: ‘My dishwasher technician told me to put the tablet in the bottom of the machine. So that’s what I do.’

Many people said they were shocked by this revelation, and we have to say we’re in the same boat – turns out we may have been using dishwashing tablets the wrong way our whole lives.

‘My mind is blown! I always work so hard to get that little tablet lined up perfectly in the clicky thingy [compartment],’ said one Facebook user.

‘Chucking it in the bottom from now on!’

However, other users disputed the merits of this method.

‘I have been told by a dishwasher fanatic that this is not a good idea. When you first start a dishwasher cycle, the machine squirts some water about to loosen food materials, like a quick rinse cycle, then it dumps that water.’

‘Then it adds more water and (and you can hear this) the cleaner compartment door opens. This dissolves the tablet/powder and this soapy water gets swished and squirted about for a longer while, doing all the cleaning using pressure and the powerful dishwashing chemicals.

‘This water is then dumped and a rinse cycle begins. If you don’t have the detergent in the compartment, it is likely to just get washed out after the initial rinse.’

It does beg the question - if your dishwasher manufacturer thought it was best to simply place your tablet at the bottom of the machine, why include a dedicated compartment in the first place?

Our research into the tip has yielded mixed results. If you've been struggling to get your dishes clean lately, it might be time to try this new method – it’s unlikely to damage your dishwasher and may just work. What do you think, members? Should we wave goodbye to the fiddly dishwasher compartment?

My dishwasher compartment lid won't close any more, so I put the tablets in the cutlery basket. It works perfectly well, dishes are always clean and the tablets dissolve properly.

The tablet won't fit in the drawer dedicated for it, so I have to leave it outside on a rack. I will try it in the cutlery basket next.

The compartment in my dishwasher stopped working and I didn’t want to bother getting it fixed or replaced so I put the tablet into the end of the cutlery basket. WOW does a way better job. I had also bought the cheapest tablets to try and woohoo, no need for the expensive ones anymore👏

My fabulous technician told me years ago, except in hard water/bore water areas, we're using far more than is needed in the tablets & that half a tablet is more than enough except for real heavy pots & pans loads ..... and so I cut up a few. He was right so I went back to using powder for many years and then Finish bought out their gel! OMG! It is brilliant & everything is always clean & there's never any residue.

I sometimes put my dishwashing tablet in the cutlery basket where I have not put any cutlery just in in one small area sort of in the midlle.
