We've been using dishwashing tablets wrong this whole time - no wonder our dishes have been coming out dirty!​

However, it seems that we may have been using this handy appliance wrong this whole time.

An Aussie mum recently took to social media to share a controversial dishwashing tablet tip, and let's just say, we were pretty surprised.

Taking to the Mums Who Clean Facebook page, she stunned fellow Aussies by claiming that she never puts her dishwashing tablet in the allocated compartment.

Instead, she simply throws it in the bottom of the dishwasher before starting the cycle.

‘It’s so much easier than putting it in the compartment, and worrying about whether it opens or not. And cleans perfectly every time.’

The compartment in my dishwasher stopped working and I didn’t want to bother getting it fixed or replaced so I put the tablet into the end of the cutlery basket. WOW does a way better job. I had also bought the cheapest tablets to try and woohoo, no need for the expensive ones anymore

My fabulous technician told me years ago, except in hard water/bore water areas, we're using far more than is needed in the tablets & that half a tablet is more than enough except for real heavy pots & pans loads ..... and so I cut up a few. He was right so I went back to using powder for many years and then Finish bought out their gel! OMG! It is brilliant & everything is always clean & there's never any residue.
