On the evening of April 25, between the hours of 6 pm and 7 pm, an assailant entered Hill's Hood Street residence through the back of the house and inflicted severe head injuries upon him with what police suspect to be ‘a bat or a blunt implement’.
The attack was as unexpected as it was vicious, leaving Hill in a serious condition that needed immediate transport to Toowoomba Hospital.
In the days following the assault, there was a glimmer of hope as Hill showed signs of recovery.
However, the community's relief was short-lived. Hill's condition took a turn for the worse, and he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, May 5, leaving behind a family in despair and a community in disbelief.
The Queensland Police have since escalated the case to a homicide investigation, recognising the gravity of the crime and the urgency to bring the perpetrator to justice.
According to Detective Inspector Heath McQueen, the priority for investigators is to unravel the motive behind this heinous act.
‘It's too early to speculate at this point in time if it was a random attack or targeted attack,’ he said.

‘He's an elderly gentleman, in his own home...it's horrendous,’ he remarked.

‘You know, he'd been diagnosed with dementia only a couple of months ago. He lived pretty quietly these days,’ she shared.
‘That's probably the hardest part for the family...why?’

‘If you know anything, or [have] seen anything that's hugely helpful, whether you think it's important or not,’ she pleaded.
