TikTok video reveals thief at Kmart

In a new video, a shopper has shared a thief’s brazen act in Kmart’s shoe aisle.

“The things you see while shopping at your local shops,” wrote TikTok user Francine Guise on her video’s caption, showing how she came across the disappointing discovery while browsing through the slippers section.

Francine’s video exposed how the Kmart thief had taken a pair of new $2 thongs from the display and then replaced them with their old and dirty flip flops, putting them back on the rack.

It was presumed the thief left the store wearing the new pair, leaving the worn-out ones behind with the rest of the new footwear.

The TikTok video gained over 14,900 views since posting, and many Aussie retail workers reacted, saying it was a common occurrence in many stores.

“Happens in all retail,” said one user, while another added: “This used to happen all the time with Dunlops in Target.”

“Worked for Spendless Shoes! Happens mainly in the school shoe sections, what lovely people we have!” wrote a third retail worker.

More comments flooded in from fellow shoppers and workers alike, with one saying, “Used to happen all the time when I worked at Big W,” while another person said, “Yep, seen it plenty of times.”

Others pointed out that the thongs stolen were really cheap, aiming at the audacity of the thief.

“Really? They are not that expensive!” said one, while another wrote: “How do people come up with this and be game enough to do it?”

Kmart has yet to comment on the incident.

The audacity of this thief! Be careful when shopping, everyone! Always check and make sure you’re getting your money’s worth.

OH DEAR I'd like to think the person really needed them and was down on their luck. I mean if you cannot afford $2 then that's sad.....

There I was all ready to give benefit of doubt, thinking MAYBE (long shot, I know) the person who left their old mingy thongs DID pay for new ones by simply scanning the label. THEN I saw they had placed old thongs onto card for new ones, so no they did not do the righty at all. I will go with Fat&fancy with the thought that the person really needed them & was down on their luck. Some people just steal because it is so easy to do so & for the sake of it. :(

Yesterday, in the mail I received a "Christmas card", a photocopy of a Christmas tree, with a handwritten greeting.
The "envelope" was a piece of paper stuck together with sticky tape.
I hear you say, "That's OK"!
The "stamp" was also a photocopy, stuck on with sticky tape.
I can't take a very good photo, the sticky tape distorts it.
How's that for theft?

Maybe the stores need to bring back more assistants to wander around the departments and keep an eye out for these thieves. If I knew someone was desparate I would pay the cost of the small item like this for them. It all comes down, I think, to the stores attempting to save money on employees and don't get me started on Kmart's central paying system.

I have seen people come into the store not wearing shoes & walking out wearing a lovely pair of new shoes . I once told an assistant that a customer was wearing new shoes & had left the old ones on the floor just where they took them off & was told it happens all the time & they cant do anything about it .

Yep. Happens. While shopping in Kmart my husband and I were looking at men's shoes. Saw a pair hanging and he thought that style looks ok. I said don't touch them. They looked ok but had a worn look. No tag and dirty. Yuk. Used a tissue to push them on the floor. Did tell a knart employee and she said you can't believe how often it is done. Mmm there are some people out there.

I bought a birthday card for my 5 yr old granddaughter and when I went to write in card and discovered someone had cut off part of the bottom of the card. 🤦🏼‍♀️
