Throaties

Here’s one from the archives; Mary Barker‎ sent this photo and posted a memory a couple of years ago; "When I first arrived in Melbourne Australia on 17 January 1956, aged 10, I was looking for something familiar in sweets (lollies in OZ). The only thing I recognised was THROATIES. There was an advertisement "Laugh it off with Throaties". I believe it had marijuana in it....No wonder it helped us laugh it off. I have tried confirming this but can't. Would really love to know what the ingredients were."
Must admit that I'd never heard of marijuana being an ingredient of Throaties. I've often heard that the original Coca Cola had a small amount of cocaine in it but once again I think that was all disproved.

Coke did have in the early days have cocaine in it...that's where "coke" got it's name
