This $14 Collapsible Laundry Basket from Kmart is Causing a Frenzy Among Shoppers

Kmart is one of the perfect spots to casually peruse whenever we're on the hunt for a bargain buy.

Recently, the store's shelves were graced with another item that has avid homeware shoppers excited.

We're talking about the retailer’s much-raved-about $14 collapsible laundry basket, which has sent Kmart lovers into a shopping frenzy!

The product has been all the buzz on social media, courtesy of mum Cacy Anthony's recent post featuring the basket.

The laundry basket is straightforward in its design: it’s a collapsible basket, which means space is less of a problem when putting away clothes, especially when you don’t have much space in the first place.

Cacy, for example, showed off how she uses them to store her family's washing in her small laundry area.

'12 months ago, I started a “basket system”,' she explained in the post’s caption.

'Every family member has their basket instead of accumulating a massive pile that no one wants to do. Except mine were horrid wire baskets taking up my whole laundry space (that I don't even have).'

Apparently, this mum had been hunting for an aesthetically pleasing, white-coloured collapsible basket but couldn't find one — until she stumbled across Kmart's version.

‘I looked everywhere. And I wasn’t budging on the colour,’ Cacy said.

‘There are plenty of nice ones on the market, but none white, and most are around $40-$50 each.’

‘This week, Kmart just landed these & I am obsessed. (This is) exactly what I was after. And only $14 each!’

Cacy also explained why the baskets were such a big deal for her.

‘Our house is 100 years old and has ZERO storage. Even my laundry doesn’t have a cupboard or drawer.’ she said.

‘So I’ve done well to compact five lives into this house…. These baskets slot perfectly into my bottom shelving.’

Some of her followers shared her energy in the comments section too.

‘Heading to Kmart to buy these baskets after this video,’ one user said.

‘Oh, I need these!’ added another.

Kmart Australia’s official Instagram page shared Cacy’s post, which received 13.5 thousand hearts (likes).

As in the original post, many shoppers loved the $14 baskets.

‘I’ve just used this in our caravan for a weekend away, and it was perfect!’ one user said.

‘I bought this, (it’s) so awesome!’ shared another.

Some even joked that even though the baskets were collapsible, they likely wouldn’t stay collapsed, given their use.

‘When are laundry baskets empty? Asking for a friend,’ one user commented in jest.

‘Mine would never be collapsed,’ another said.

Others even got creative and saw different uses for the baskets.

A user shared: ‘This could work for storing plastic bags! I’m looking for a storage solution.’

‘I saw it could be hung on the wall too. I think this could work great for crafts and storing magazines as well,’ a second said.

Key Takeaways

  • Kmart shoppers are raving about the store’s $14 collapsible laundry basket.
  • Cacy Anthony posted a reel on Instagram showing how she uses them to stay on top of her family's washing needs.
  • Many Kmart fans suggested the collapsible laundry baskets could be used for many different things besides laundry such as plastic bags, art materials, or even magazines.
  • Some shoppers joked that they'd never get around to using the collapsible function of the basket, given never-ending laundry.
But of course, there’s always room for improvement, even for seemingly perfect products like this.

‘I wish they had a handle on both sides. Old people aren’t usually great at carrying one-handed due to lack of strength,’ one commenter pointed out.

‘Too bad they don’t have wheels,’ another said.

My daughter purchased 2 off these and they do not last.
One broke after aweek and the other after around a month.

I have always had a basket for each person which is kept in each ones room. This way no garments are mixed up . I've also taught my kids to was their own clothes from 13 years old and they have to do their washing weekly . This includes my sons

frenzy??? raving???? Ye gods I am scared to go into Kmart if this is what is going on!!!

Waste of money. Just get a few of the normal clothes baskets and insert them into one another and then you have three like she does. Then, all three stacked together, slide them in sideways.

Aldi (Special Buys) & all camping store like BFC sell collapsible washing baskets and buckets.

I see these stackable clothes baskets failing.

When does anyone have time to fold up washing baskets & put them away before there is more washing?
