Talk about timing! Twins born on different days, months, AND years

In California, a pair of newborn twins came out only a few minutes after the other. But a few minutes was all it took for the clock to strike midnight, resulting in the two babies having different birthdays, birth months, and birth years!

It was a Friday evening on the 31st of December when expecting parents Fatima Madrigal and Robert Trujillo welcomed their first twin, baby Alfredo Antonio Trujillo, at 11:45 pm. Fifteen minutes later, the second twin, baby Aylin Yolanda Trujillo, came into the world exactly at midnight of the new year.
“It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” said the twins’ mother, Ms Madrigal. “I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”
News outlets reported that both of the twins are in good health. The baby boy, Alfredo, weighed 6 lbs and 1 oz, while his younger baby sister, Aylin, weighed in at 5 lbs and 14 oz.
Dr Ana Abril Arias, the family doctor who helped deliver the twins, called the unique birth “one of the most memorable deliveries of her career”.
She added, “It was an absolute pleasure to help these little ones arrive here safely in 2021 and 2022. What an amazing way to start the New Year!”
Natividad Medical Hospital, the facility where the twin babies were born, also tweeted about the miraculous delivery.
The happy parents are now welcoming the twins into their family of five, along with their three older children – two girls and one boy.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), around 3 per cent of the total births in the US are twin births, with over 120,000 babies born every year.
Twins with different birthdays are a rarer occurrence. However, the Trujillo twins were not the first recorded case. In 2013 (and 2014), MedStar Washington Hospital Center reported a woman giving birth to twins near midnight, with one born at 11:58 pm on the last day of 2013, and the other at 12:01 am on the first day of 2014.
If you think that’s rare, there are also records of twins being born in different centuries.
An example is Jordan and Jake Wallman from Indiana. Jake was born at 11:59 pm on December 31, 1999, while his little twin sister Jordan followed at 12:01 am on January 1, 2000.
