Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac teases co-hosts with X-rated 'masterpiece'

Sunrise's resident weatherman, Sam Mac, is well-known for his witty humour and hilarious antics on the show.

On Friday morning, the experienced broadcaster shared with the team a painting of a Sunrise presenter, saying that it was a 'masterpiece' created by artists.

Turns out, the artwork he was referring to was of one of his co-hosts — Matt ‘Shirvo’ Shirvington.

Sam had challenged a group of students at an art class to depict either Shirvo or his Sunrise co-host Natalie ‘Nat’ Barr in 30 minutes.

'The results will astound you,' Sam teased when he told the TV hosts to expect the artwork.

He added: 'Luckily you're not easily offended.'

Shirvo could be heard begging in jest, ‘Please be Nat, please be Nat.’

The tour of the finished paintings started, showing the artistic interpretations of Nat and Shirvo. All seemed okay (and flattering) so far.

Nat for one had a great number of paintings showing her at various stages — and hairstyles — of her career.

Shirvo also had a couple, with some unsurprisingly focusing on his great physique.

However, it was the last painting that caught everyone's attention as Sam seemed hesitant to show it to the viewers.

Finally, he gave in and said, 'There's one more that I haven't shown you yet and I'm not sure if I can show this… Oh screw it. It's Friday!'

The camera then focuses on one artist’s rather… unique take on Shirvo, much to Sam’s delight.

Shown on screen was his lower body clad in lycra, along with a part outlined in deep green.

What would have been Shirvo’s torso and upper body was haphazardly drawn in stick figures — something that didn’t escape Sam’s eagle eyes.

‘Tell us about this one,’ he said to the woman who did the… er… flattering rendition.

The student told him: 'I hear (Shirvo was) in the Olympics, so I really wanted to capture a lycra moment.'

‘And you didn’t think it was necessary to paint his upper body?’ Sam asked.

'No, lower half only,' she said.

'I mean, anyone who has watched the Olympics knows that we've seen his p****,’ Sam teased, eliciting laughs from everybody who heard.

All throughout the exchange, Nat could barely keep her laughter under wraps.

Thankfully being a good sport, Shirvo was also smiling and laughing, albeit a bit embarassed.

Quick to change the subject, he went on to choose another painting as his best pick, which earned him a light jab from Nat.

‘Yep, of course you do,’ she joked.

Shirvo is a fixture of Sunrise every Friday, standing in for David ‘Kochie’ Koch.

There has been much talk of him replacing Kochie entirely when the veteran host retires sometime in 2023.

Meanwhile if you have time, be sure to check out this brain teaser that stumped Nat and Kochie.

So, what are your thoughts on this? Better yet, have you experienced having an artwork of yourself (or a family member) painted? Share your stories with us, people!

You never cease to impress us @Suzanne_rose! Something about the way the colors were painted made me think 'Van Gogh' when I saw this. Bravo!! 👏👏👏

I will let you in on a secret cooking I'm amazing at could cater awhole party , the one thing I cannot do is sew or even use a sewing machine , have tried though 🙂
I can cook for my family, or bring a salad or dessert to a family function, but I would be an anxious wreck if I tried to cater for a big party!
Oh, and I'm not much good with a sewing machine either!

I expected everyone to remember the incident.
It was replayed over and over at the time, but Matt Shirvo took it so well.
He just grinned, but deep down, I'm sure he must have been embarrassed to his sox.
That's why he is such a great sport, and a great sportsman.
