Sunrise Feud Exposed: Sam Armytage's Silence on David ‘Kochie’ Koch's Exit Reveals Tension Behind the Scenes

When it comes to television dramas, there are few things more intriguing than an on-screen feud between presenters. We love a bit of juicy gossip, and rumours have been swirling around Channel Seven's popular morning show, Sunrise. Speculation is rife that simmering tensions between former co-hosts Sam Armytage and David ‘Kochie’ Koch have escalated since Sam left the show.

As many of you know, David Koch, fondly known as 'Kochie’, recently announced he's leaving Sunrise after a stellar 21-year stint. We wrote more about this here. It's an end of an era for the breakfast show, which has seen many transformations and co-hosts over the years. Messages of well-wishes and congratulations flooded in from friends, family, fans, and former colleagues—except for one noticeable absence: Sam Armytage.

With their long history sharing the Sunrise couch and seven years of camaraderie, one would think Sam would have something to say about Kochie’s departure. However, the radio silence on her part hints at an ongoing feud that has been speculated but never confirmed. This intriguing turn of events has left us raising our eyebrows and wondering what really happened behind the scenes.

Even though Sam didn't publicly comment on Kochie’s departure, other famous faces, such as model Erin Holland, were quick to congratulate him on his long career with Sunrise. 'Can't wait to see what happens next for you. What an incredible career at Sunrise,' Erin mentioned in a post.

Kochie himself admitted he hasn't had the chance to check all his messages from well-wishers but confirmed that he saw one from his other longtime co-host, Mel Doyle, Sam's predecessor. 'I've just glanced... I saw one from Mel, and I'm sure there will be a whole bunch of others in the list, but I've been talking to lots of journos and doing interviews,' he confessed.

In 2021, Sam appeared to be paying close attention to Natalie Barr's promotion to co-host on Sunrise. The situation escalated when Sam criticised Natalie on Twitter for continuously speaking about her in the media, despite being three months into her new role. Sam's tweet read: 'Look, I'm out. Nat's wanted the job forever... and she's finally got it. She just needs to get on and enjoy it—and forget about me (even though I'm unforgettable).'

In contrast, during Kochie's emotional farewell speech, he was overcome with emotion as he looked back on his impressive career. 'I have loved every single minute of it, and I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved here over the last 21 years,' he said, nostalgically sharing the sense of pride he felt.

Natalie's heartfelt response to her co-host was equally touching, 'The show would not be what it is today without you. It's been an amazing ride, and we're going to celebrate that in the next two weeks.'

I'm sure his demise from the world of telebishion "entertainment" will be well cushioned by a small superannuation payout. Remind me to feel sorry for him and all his devastated followers.
No one is asking you to feel sorry for Kochie least of all him. And frankly, as a finance specialist it would be far more disturbing if he had not taken care of his super than bellyaching about what he may have saved. And those savings are more likely to be outside super as in it.

I haven't been able to stand Koch since he first appeared on TV way back. He began with a 5 - 10 minute guest appearance as a finance "expert", o0nce or twice per week. Then all of a sudden he is suddenly a bloody expert on everyone and everything. He is no more than a CPA, a 'bean counter'! (No insult to the many CPAs out there who are honest and hard working people, in the main.)
He was the reason I stopped watching Sunrise show and I haven't watched it since! I will not miss him.

Actually, he is a great deal more than a "CPA bean-counter" as you would know if you looked him up instead of letting personal feelings get in the way.

Ah, yes. Lolly beats lachrymosity every time. No doubt the world can look forward to one more manufactured reality series, complete with all the drama that can be mustered -- The Life and Times of Kochie.
Care factor zero.

Personally, I can't stand Matt Doran and Monique Wright on Weekend Sunrise. They are rude, talk over each other constantly, mock their guests by not paying attention, and squabble like kids in the playground. I just hope Matt Doran does not replace Kochie.
I love watching Weekend Sunrise, Matt has certainly come out of his shell since starting and I love the way they bounce off each other.....they are not being rude. It is all fun and makes the show interesting, otherwise they would not be there.
