Shoppers left in awe after discovering 'little-known' feature in popular kitchen staple
- Replies 14
In Australia alone, there are tons and tons of food wasted every year in restaurants, grocery stores, and households; therefore, it's important for every family to know how to properly store and preserve their own food.
The good thing is that cling wrap exists to assist us in extending the life of perishables and leftovers in the kitchen.
Now, we don't know about you folks, but as helpful and efficient as it is, one of the things we dread most when having to use cling wrap is cutting it up. Sometimes, the serrated edges don't seem to do the job, and we end up wasting half the roll while swearing up a storm.
But what if we told you there was a way to make using cling wrap much easier? You might not believe us, but it's true!
All you have to do is buy your cling wrap from ALDI because, apparently, some of their rolls come with a nifty feature not many people know… a hidden cutter.
Yes, you read that right – a hidden cutter, which makes using the product so much simpler. You can actually rip off strips without any fuss at all! Who would have thought?
This 'little-known' feature was discovered by an ALDI Mums Facebook group member who posted about it on social media recently. She shared a snap of her Goliath Cling Wrap 300m that she bought from her local ALDI store – and pointed out where the cutter was hidden in the design.
In case you can't spot it right away, here's a hint: open up one side of the cardboard box, and voila! There it is in the middle of the tube (after you pull off two small pieces of sticky tape). How easy is that?
Hundreds of other social media users were quick to chime in after seeing her post – many admitted they had been using their own roll for months without even realising there was a cutter hiding inside this whole time!
‘Open an end of the box up, and there it is in the middle of the tube. Pull off the stick tape, and BAM, cutter!’ they said.
One commenter said they had just wasted half an hour trying unsuccessfully to find it on their own before giving up entirely; now they feel quite silly not discovering it sooner. 'I just wasted a bit just to see how easily it cut,' they added.
Another user noted that it was obvious because they heard rattling inside the product while using it.
A fourth user also mentioned that they were unable to locate the same brand in a different size, meaning this feature might be exclusive to larger sizes only.
If you haven't been able to spot the cutter yet, don't worry – you're definitely not the only one. In fact, even some of ALDI's own employees didn't know it was there! According to one shopper, she had to ask a staff member for help before she could locate it herself.
So there you have it, members – next time you need to use cling wrap, make sure you buy the big rolls from ALDI. Not only will you save money in the long run (it lasts customers for years!), but you'll also save yourself a lot of time and effort with its super handy cutter.
And now that the problem of cutting cling wrap is already solved, another comes to mind - and that is the plastic sticking onto itself! To remedy that, check out this video below:

Tip
Don't toss the Goliath cling wrap tube and box just yet—they can be reused and recycled! Also, be careful when using it to heat food; CHOICE warns that the plastic wrap can melt if it comes into contact with the food at any point during the process.
