Shoppers are upset over this 'dangerous' find in a Coles aisle: 'Do better'
- Replies 18
Imagine this and tell us, does the following situation make you feel annoyed too, members? You're doing your grocery shopping, and you take a turn down an aisle, only to be met with a messy, cluttered space full of empty boxes littering the walkway.
It's frustrating, sure. But for the most part, we can understand how it happens; after all, supermarkets are busy places, and staff members have their hands full sometimes.
But what if this wasn't just a once-off incident? What if it was the norm at your local store?
Suddenly, that frustration turns into anger, especially when you realise just how dangerous such an environment could be – especially for vulnerable shoppers like the elderly, those with disabilities, and those with vision impairment.
That's exactly what happened to Jeska Lee from NSW recently when she visited her local Coles supermarket.
Posting on TikTok, she shared footage of the chaotic scene she found in one aisle – empty cardboard boxes and discarded grocery items were strewn across the floor, and there was no worker in sight to pick them up!
'This is how Coles stacks all their stuff and just leaves it on the floor like that,' said Jeska, adding that having these kinds of stuff on the floor could make an accident more likely to happen.
'Someone could trip. Coles, seriously, do better, mate!' she went on to say.
Not only is leaving cardboard boxes lying around on the ground unsightly, but it also creates a trip hazard for customers.
Someone could be racing through their grocery list and not notice the box poking out from under some shelves until it's too late… they can fall and seriously hurt themselves! Such carelessness could easily result in serious injuries for vulnerable shoppers - something Lee acknowledges in her video.
Thankfully though, once word got out about what was going on at this particular store, thanks to Lee's now-popular TikTok post, things changed pretty quickly!
A Coles spokesperson told a news source: 'We want every customer to have a comfortable shopping experience when they shop at Coles. We were disappointed to see the footage of the Coles aisles and have followed up with the store.'
The supermarket giant never clarified what steps they plan on taking internally to address these sorts of issues moving forward, but still, it's good to see that at least some action is being taken in response to the clip!
We want to remind you to stay alert and be mindful of your surroundings when doing your grocery shopping – no matter where you choose to shop.
Keep an eye out for potential trip hazards like empty boxes, cords, or easily missed items that are strewn about carelessly. If you see something that could be dangerous, be sure to report it to a staff member immediately.
Stay safe everyone, and we hope you always have a pleasant shopping experience!
