I think a random act of kindness should be accepted with grace wether you can afford it or not. You can always pay it forward at a later date. Posting a video of your action however detracts from the act itself as with the man that gave a woman flowers.
I believe it’s a lovely thing to do if you can afford it. Paying it forward in some way can be your way of being grateful. That can be anything that helps another person which is what it’s all about. This can be anything from helping someone to cross a road to paying for shopping. It’s all about respect, kindness & gratitude.

It’s called paying it forward. And he asked permission first. You can always say no. Also, I don’t believe it was filmed. And, you never know, it may be for someone who is really struggling.

Is there a lot of poor looking women around? This always seems to happen to a lot of them for some reason?

I certainly wouldn't pay for anyone elses shopping. I'm not a bank for someone else. My money is for me. They should make sure they've got enough money to pay for it before they decide to go shopping or put something back if they can't afford it when they're in the shop. Why don't they check their bank balance before they go out? Takes seconds on your phone.

Firstly, it happens to women because it's mostly women who do the grocery shopping.

It used to be great for me when I could go shopping & not have to worry that I might have picked up more groceries than I could afford. Not now that I'm on the Aged Pension & have to pay my specialist every 6 weeks while my refund from Medicare leaves me $360 out of pocket. As for checking my bank balance before I go out - I do not have that available on my phone. Have not & will not EVER do internet banking. This leaves me too much at risk of somebody gaining access to my bank a/c & stripping it clean. And I'm not alone as a senior who has this fear & will not put information out there for scammers to get access to my money.

You need to get a bit more understanding of life for many people in this country & learn some empathy.

Some people just live to be miserable. They can’t see joy or happiness in the world without trying to suck it all out. A simple thank you or no thank you would suffice in this situation but simply accept it with the grace it was intended and pass it on as soon as you can! Don’t try and analyse motives. Firstly, it happens to women because it's mostly women who do the grocery shopping.

It used to be great for me when I could go shopping & not have to worry that I might have picked up more groceries than I could afford. Not now that I'm on the Aged Pension & have to pay my specialist every 6 weeks while my refund from Medicare leaves me $360 out of pocket. As for checking my bank balance before I go out - I do not have that available on my phone. Have not & will not EVER do internet banking. This leaves me too much at risk of somebody gaining access to my bank a/c & stripping it clean. And I'm not alone as a senior who has this fear & will not put information out there for scammers to get access to my money.

You need to get a bit more understanding of life for many people in this country & learn some empathy.

My wife and I always go shopping together. We buy what we want to buy. We're originally from the UK and have only got the UK state pension, a small private pension and some savings to live on. The UK pension doesn't increase every year as we live here now and don't get the Oz pension for 10 years. And don't qualify for any Oz benefits.
I've also got quite a few medications to buy every few weeks which is extra on our budget but still spend what we like.
As for not having internet banking. Looks like all the scare stories must have got to you? My wife doesn't stop looking at our bank account on her phone and keeps telling me what payments have been made. I don't know how people can do without it these days? It's the only way I pay for everything now. In a supermarket I just hold the phone above the payment terminal and my bill is paid and my points added all in one go.

It all started when a shopper from Noosa shared her experience in a local community Facebook group. According to her post, when she was at the checkout counter, the person in front of her, a complete stranger, offered to pay for her groceries.

Yes, you read that correctly. Despite the fact that he was already finished with his shopping, this anonymous Good Samaritan decided to pay for the items in the woman's cart, leaving her amazed and extremely grateful.

'I know I said thank you at the time, but you're amazing... It's my birthday today, so to have my groceries paid for by a complete stranger was a birthday blessing,' she wrote in the post, still in awe of the kind gesture she had experienced.

This sparked a huge debate among members of the group, especially when the woman went on to explain that it's 'weird to pay for a stranger's groceries' and that she would've 'politely declined' the good deed if someone offered.

'I think I would be offended,' she said. 'Does this guy think I'm poor?'

It was a lively gesture. A true act of kindness. I would have appreciated it very much. I really can't understand why anyone would be upset or angry about it. Maybe he was just passing on this kindness from a similar experience. I hope this lady gets to do the same.

Is there a lot of poor looking women around? This always seems to happen to a lot of them for some reason?

I certainly wouldn't pay for anyone elses shopping. I'm not a bank for someone else. My money is for me. They should make sure they've got enough money to pay for it before they decide to go shopping or put something back if they can't afford it when they're in the shop. Why don't they check their bank balance before they go out? Takes seconds on your phone.

That sounds a bit selfish and unkind of you to say, but it’s your choice to do or not to do. I would have tried to make the giver understand I had the money in my car, if that was the case, and if the giver still insisted then I would very politely thank him/her and try and get his/her number offering to repay the money. If it was still insistence on the giver’s part that it was not necessary to repay, then I would thank the person profusely; rest assured there are still people of this ilk left in society. Sure, we’re all finding the cost of living becoming more unbearable - some more so than others - but the gesture of this man was very kind. None of us know the receiver’s circumstances or the giver’s intention so we should not put ourselves out there commenting - I wouldn’t get involved but I’ve only replied to this because of your rude & selfish attitude posted here.

I dress extremely well, and don't look poor, but I am. With 4 food allergies, I have to shop extremely carefully, and sometimes have to go without one or 2 items on my list...I'd love it if someone paid my bill...but I shop online, so I'm not embarrassed at having to remove things at checkout, and I can keep a tab on my spend easier, so I guess I'm stuck paying for my own..

I’ve been offered twice at the supermarket but politely refused with a smile and a thank you. The people weren’t offended by any means, I felt embarrassed though but in saying that I remained polite
