Princess’s absence fuels speculation: ‘Everything that’s been happening is weird’

The British Royal Family is no stranger to the public eye, but the recent two-month absence of Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has left royal watchers and the general public alike in a state of confusion and concern.

The princess, more commonly known as Kate Middleton, has been conspicuously absent from public life since a January announcement that she had undergone 'planned' abdominal surgery.

Meanwhile, the Palace's silence on the matter has only fuelled speculation and concern about the Duchess's health. The last time the public saw Kate was on Christmas Day last year when she attended a church service with her husband, Prince William, and their three children, George, Louis, and Charlotte.

It was revealed in early February that the princess was battling a health crisis, which led to her going on hiatus. It is believed her return date won’t be until after Easter.

But while the Duchess’s absence has been planned, it hasn’t stopped the public from getting worried about her wellbeing.

The situation is made even more complex by the fact that around the same time as Kate's surgery, her father-in-law, King Charles III, was diagnosed with cancer and began undergoing treatment.

This has led to Prince William taking on more official duties in his father's stead, but his wife's prolonged absence remained unexplained.

The Palace has been tight-lipped about the Duchess's condition, releasing only a brief statement to quell rising concerns.

'The Princess of Wales continues to be doing well,' the statement read. However, this has done little to satisfy the public's curiosity and concern about the Duchess's health.

Rachel Hawkins, an expert on royals, took to social media to express her confusion and concern over the situation. She stated that while she did not want to speculate, she also noted that the lack of information about Kate's wellbeing was 'unprecedented' and 'very, very weird'.

‘We’re at [two] months since anyone has seen her,’ Hawkins wrote.

‘We’re not even getting [the] “I appreciate the well-wishes” statements from her.’

Hawkins, also the author of books including Royals and Her Royal Highness, also mentioned that while Prince William has released statements ‘under his personal standard’, everything about Kate has been released under the ‘Prince and Princess of Wales banner’.

She also pointed out the stark contrast between the Palace's handling of Kate's health situation and that of King Charles III, who has issued several public statements thanking people for their support as he begins cancer treatment.

However, she said she didn’t think the princess’s silence was due to anything ‘nefarious’.

That said, Hawkins continues to believe that the lack of information supplied to the public was ‘mishandled’.

This situation has led to rampant speculation about Kate's condition. Some suggest that it must be a condition that requires careful management and privacy, hence the lack of public appearances or photographs.

In a previous statement made by the Royal Family, they revealed that Kate's surgery took place at The London Clinic in Marylebone and that it was for a 'non-cancerous' condition. However, no further details were given, and the Duchess's desire for privacy was reiterated.

'The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate,' the statement read.

'She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.'
Key Takeaways
  • The Princess of Wales, Catherine, has not been seen in public for over two months following her planned abdominal surgery.
  • There is little information on Kate's current health status, leading to public speculation and concern.
  • Royals expert Rachel Hawkins commented on the unusual lack of communication about Kate's well-being and contrasted it with King Charles III's openness about his cancer treatment.
  • Kensington Palace has previously issued statements assuring that the Princess is doing well and thanking the London Clinic staff for their care while respecting her wish for privacy regarding her medical situation.
We send our well-wishes to the princess and her family during her recovery.

For heaven's sake you are o ly stirring up rubbish as it was stated she had a 'non-cancerous' condition. The last couple of years have been hard for her what with Harry being so troublesome, the Queen dying, Charles being crowned andhis diagnosis, her royal duties increasing plus bringing up 3 small children and now being over 40. Doubt you would be looking your best all the time. Time to take a step back and think before making a comment.
I'm ugly. My mirror does not lie.

What's your excuse?

I think that the public has been told all they need to know. She is entitled to her privacy. The media are frustrated because no one is talking and they want to make some headlines. This is English gutter press at its best. Leave her alone.
My sentiments exactly.

Oh yeh dear dear, so hard for her with all her servants and help . Dam I worked hard sometimes 6 days aweek without help and with 10 more kids than Kate. No one to do my make up and hair before engaging in my work duties .

Please all they have to say is a little bit more than they have. After all she IS ONE OF THE WORKING ROYALS and who pays her !!!

If I had 12 weeks off work I would need to give a reason to the ones who paid me.

Much of the royal family's expenses are covered by an annual taxpayer-funded payment known as the Sovereign Grant, which in the 2021-2022 financial year was set at 86.3 million pounds ($108m) – roughly 1.29 pounds ($1.61) for every person in the UK

If she wanted people to know what is happening she would let everyone know. Surely she is entitled to her privacy the same as everyone else. Enjoy your recovery time in privacy.

For someone who doesn't want to "speculate", there's a lot of speculation in this article. And Kate Middleton was Princess Catherine's maiden name, I thought that when she married Prince William she became a duchess so it seems disrespectful to continue to use her maiden name. Other than that, this looks like a fair summary.

the silence may be her way of stepping out of the limelight so King Charles’ condition is the main focus. Princess Kate has always been respectful of her in-laws, despite her and Prince William having their own ‘normal’ life. It has been noted she won’t be back until after Easter, so why the panic? Surely the Royal family have the right for rest and rehabilitation as well. Just leave them be!

It seems strange because on other occasions of interest the public have been kept in the picture. Especially for her not to comment on obvious concerns being made about her wellbeing

@sdc Why was the post, in today's
( Sunday) closed for further discussions, nothing was said disrespectfully .
The post was on Thomas Kingston sudden passing

It's interesting to see peoples views on Covid vaccination.

I believe his death might have been suicide.

As for covid vaccination I believe alot of people would have died if we never got it but I also believe some people are dying from it .

I feel it was made too quick where other vaccinations take up to 10 years

I personally know two healthy people who died in their sleep only 8 months ago.

I think we should be able to voice our opions on here.

why post something we can't reply too

Looks like that Hawkins woman will have to find something interesting to write about herself instead of just rehashing Royal media releases. 🙄

Again another artical that brings out the speculators. Leave it until you hear something positive it's their perogative to tell if they wish too
