Price of hot chook from Woolies ‘skyrockets’ after a printing error

On the popular forum site Reddit, a shopper has shared an “amusing” find he discovered in his local Woolies.

The shopper snapped a photo of the Macro Free-Range Hot Roast chicken from the supermarket and pointed out the glaring error on the packaging, which left several fellow shoppers in fits of laughter.

Turns out, that one Woolies store in Melbourne put a label on one of their hot chooks, indicating a whopping price of $84. The chicken is normally priced at $12.

The shopper who shared the rare Woolies find captioned his post: “These Woolworths roast chook prices are getting really inflated” which led to several users poking fun at the pricing error as well.

One user said that the label was clearly a misprint. He was right, but then he added: “That’s a roast emu.”

A second user joked that the free-range certification was what made it so expensive: “Those free range certifications ain’t cheap…”

Meanwhile, another user brought up the rising petrol prices to the conversation, saying: “You could trade it for a litre of fuel?”

There was also one shopper who proposed a sneaky suggestion on how to take home the bag of chook for free.

“Take it to the checkout, get it scanned, observe that it was incorrect, get it for free.” He added: “Pretty sure that if there are two, you get the second one at half the correct price.”

He implied that as part of the Scanning Code Of Practice (SCOP) at Woolworths, they are required to give an incorrectly scanned item to the customer for free. However, other users said this “never happened” to them.

A spokesperson for Woolworths has already responded to the claim and clarified that it was a “printing error” that led to the price label mistake. They have since removed the chicken from the display.

I never buy roast chicken from Woolies. They are too small and expensive. I buy roast chicken from Costco as they are larger and slightly cheaper. If you have Costco near your area go and try the roast chicken from there.

If I have been lucky enough to get a cooked chicken from Costco , I am a happy lady, they are the best, I find Woolworths are dry and flavourless.

I must admit that the Costco BBQ chokes are lovely and they don't have all that bread in them so are gluten free and they are worth the member fee and there ribs are to dye

Went to buy a cooked chook at Woollies last week, guess what? the price has increased by 10% to $11.00 and it's still the same size, still a burnt offering with charred wings falling off, and overcooked inedible drumsticks! Needless to say I didn't buy!
