October Competition: Trivia questions and answers!

Hi guys! For those of you who don't know, we run a daily trivia game (you can view the latest one here: https://seniorsdiscountclub.com.au/trivia/latest-thread)

We've put together a bunch of questions and answers in the past - around a thousand or so - but with 10 new questions every day, it only takes us about 3 months before we're on repeats...

That's where you come in!

In October, we're running a trivia question and answer competition.

Valid entries need to have:

- A question
- A factually correct answer
- 3 incorrect (but plausible) answers
- A short paragraph expounding on the correct answer

Here's an example...

Question: Which planet in our solar system has the longest year?
Correct answer: Neptune
Incorrect answer 1: Pluto
Incorrect answer 2: Jupiter
Incorrect answer 3: Mercury
Info paragraph: Neptune makes a complete orbit around the sun (i.e. a 'Neptunian' year) every 165 Earth years. Pluto makes a complete orbit around the sun every 248 years, but is no longer considered a planet.

Make sense?

You can enter as many times as you like, and the questions can be on just about any kind of subject you're interested in. Just remember to include the question, the correct answer, 3 incorrect answers, and an info paragraph.

Our favourite question and answer submission will win a $100 voucher to Coles, Woolworths or IGA. Entries close Tuesday, October 31st 11:59 pm.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way--in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

The first for Monday.

What plant produces palm oil?

A. Rapeseed plant
B. Coconut tree
C. Flax plant
D. Palm tree

D is the correct answer.

It's amazing how many people got this question wrong on trivia nights. Maybe they thought the palm tree was too obvious.

Rapeseed plants give us canola oil.
Coconut trees give us coconut oil.
Flax plants give us linseed oil.

Number Two!

In the late 90s, two artists had best selling albums both called "Reload". Who were they?

A. U2 and Madonna
B. Metallica and Tom Jones
C. The Dixie Chicks and The Offspring
D. Lauryn Hill and Korn

B is the correct answer.

All of the artists mentioned had top selling albums in 1997 to 1999.

About the same time, at a trivia night, the question was asked in a different way. "Who recently had a best selling album called Reload?" Mine and another table answered Metallica but were WRONG! Both teams protested to no avail, Tom Jones was the only answer. Grrrr!
