My daughter was born on Christmas Eve and I don’t think anything could top that for me.
She was due Christmas day so I was pleased to give her her own day.
When she was growing up she hated the fact that she had to wait all year and then had both her birthday and Christmas one day apart.
Her birthday is probably a bit over run by all the Christmas festivities but we still celebrate it on 24th and yes, she still gets 2 separate gifts.
Also, she had her first son on 21st December so is following tradition !!!

Christmas at the Bakehouse
When I was a girl, my Dad would collect the turkey in its baking dish climb into his car with me and drive to the family bakery. There he, my Uncles Len, Eric and Bert would be manning the coke bread ovens -where bread was usually produced., but not today, it was Christmas day (Peoples ovens in those days were not very big. and couldn't accommodate the Christmas turkeys).
I would go over the road with a few of my opened gifts to my cousins house, with whom I would play, whilst my Dad and Uncles would be stoking up the coke ovens and putting baking trays containing turkeys and chickens etc labelled with customers names on the legs of turkeys. Pam and I would play whilst our Dads and uncles manned the ovens containing the Christmas Fare.

This was over 70 years ago when people didn't have the large electric ovens we have today- they were mostly coal or wood etc, my Cousin, Pam and I would go over to her house and see the few gifts she would have had for Christmas ..... whilst I would have taken my ball from Aunty Joan ... I loved that present,,,,, we didn't have many presents like they get today -But we treasured the ones we did get far far more,,,, not expecting to get lots
- Back to the bake house - My uncles, and usual bakehouse man Baden, would be roasting the turkeys or what ever meat people could afford, giving their time in the sweltering heat- People did pay a few coppers towards the coke for the ovens and the men did perspire heaps
While the turkeys cooked Pam and I played at her house and after a while we would go across the road to see how things were progressing but we kept out of the way of the heat and working men manning those hot coke ovens.
People would start to come to collect their cooked meats and the smell of baking meats pervaded Cairns Street where the bake house was at Wilsons Bread Bakery, and cheerful calls out of Merry Christmas etc, from customers picking up their cooked meats, pervaded just as the delicious smells of meats and chickens and turkeys did. Very Happy Memories

So reminiscent of stories of Christmas in Ireland when my mother was a girl, only there was no car then. She also told of all eight children getting an orange in their stocking every Christmas, the only orange they ever had in the year. In the middle of winter and no doubt imported it was a wonderfully delicious treat.

The most wonderful Christmas for me was when I was 12 years old. We were spending Christmas at my uncles garm and oh, it was hot and dry. Crops were witheringly in the fields and the sunset was orange with dust. We were watching television and there was suddenly a huge flash and cracking boom of thunder followed by driving rain. We made laughing dashes out on the veranda to retrieve presents in danger of soaking, and went to bed listening to the drumming of rain on the tin roof. It was cool and beautiful. When we arose on Christmas day, there were spangles of raindrops all over the garden. Such joy for everyone!
and we can bless again, the drumming of an army, the steady soaking rain. Thanks To Banjo Paterson.

My most memorable Xmas came after my sister and I were placed in an orphanage a few weeks before and separated from our parents and two brothers due to DV in our home. I was feeling pretty miserable the day before thinking we were to spend Xmas there when mum appeared like a magic fairy and took us home for Xmas.
DV???

Christmas 19966. I was in Viet Nam in charge of a group of young soldiers as well as looking after a village about 6 miles north of our base with 568 families, all Catholics but one so they all knew about Christmas. A few of the diggers asked if I could arrange for them to go to this village at Christmas. It turned out they had made up little bags of lollies for the kids and one had even got a Sant suit from some where. I arranged for a few chopper flights to take quite a tribe to the village and along with the four Army fellows who resided in the village a wonderful day was had. The kids thought it wonderful that Santa arrived. I think everyone in the unit has a photo of Santa flaked out on a pile of sandbags at the end of the day. Well done to all of them.

I remember that day clearly even though we lived far from there. How amazing there were gifts to be found among the debris. The resilience of Kids eh! It must've been terrifying!
We were holidaying in Queensland that Christmas - we only got as far as Proserpine before being warned not to travel to Townsville where we were booked into having Christmas at.

They would have been better than the paper ones. When I could get around and near second hand shops I looked for the bone handled knives. They are good and today I have a couple of bone handled knives and prefer them to any other knives.
I have one bone handled knife and I use it every day. Some one put it on a grinding wheel one day to sharpen it up, by the looks of the blade. I don't know where it came from, but I know where it is staying.

We Share our Christmas, ever year going to someone els’s home. The year that was our turn I decided to make it a traditional Italian Christmas, as my mother was Italian, so I made dozens and dozens of cannoli. They were perfect some with vanilla custard, some with vanilla and chocolate custard, and some with yummy cream. They look delicious and everyone couldn’t wait to tuck in. All that was needed now was the magic dusting of icing sugar, I pours the icing sugar into a sieve and went to work on the dozens of cannolI, they looked perfect until we took a bite apparently I picked up the wrong jar and sprinkled baking soda instead of icing sugar on to them. My sister and I spent 15 minutes brushing the baking soda off then and sprinkling with icing sugar, making sure to taste the sugar first. They were alright, but they left a slightly bad taste in the mouth.
Note to self “ label the bloody jars in future “ 😂🤣😂🤣🤪🤪

My Birthday is on Christmas Eve, last year my daughter had covid, which she “kindly’ passed on to me, not a birthday present I wanted!! I did open my birthday presents, but I was too ill to be bothered to open my Christmas presents, so we had Christmas dinner a week late!!
yes I do get two lots of presents, I’m spoilt that way 😀
My birthday is on Xmas eve also, but I only got 1 present 🎁 😒
