Not worth the squeeze? Enraged BetterUp colleagues criticise Prince Harry’s role in struggling firm

We all know that Prince Harry has decided to pursue a life away from the royal family.

So it's not surprising that the younger son of Princess Diana has to make his way in the world, and he's done so successfully (some would say) by creating a consultancy business and lending his royal name to various businesses and charities.

One of the best deals for the 38-year-old royal is his Chief Impact Officer role at the American mental health company BetterUp, which allegedly earns him a staggering seven-figure salary every year. Pretty good, huh?

But while Prince Harry's reportedly getting a handsome pay packet, his colleagues at BetterUp are not convinced he's putting in anywhere near enough work to justify the salary.

One employee bluntly told a media outlet when asked about Harry’s daily responsibilities: 'From what I see? I'm going to go with zero things.'

Another added, 'Every article mentions his role at BetterUp then goes on to roast [him and Meghan]. The juice isn't worth the squeeze.'

The royal’s role at the company is displayed with equal significance to the two co-founders on its leadership page but provided little detail of his responsibilities.

So far, he has performed common roles: making appearances at public summits and speaking out in favour of the Silicon Valley start-up. He did so in March this year at the BetterUp Uplift summit and then again at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

However, the company has fallen on hard times when it ‘missed its financial targets’ last year and had to lay off 16% of its workforce last week. This affected a hundred or so San Francisco-based employees.

Broadcaster Esther Krakue weighed in on this issue. 'His value to the company only came down to the fact that he is Prince Harry, not that he has any sort of background as a Chief Impact Officer,' she told Sky News Australia.

Krakue questioned how much actual work Prince Harry can do for the company when he’s busy filming a documentary, releasing a book, doing promotional tours, and focusing on his other commitments like Netflix and the Invictus Games.

‘He’s apparently planning another tour in Africa, and his wife has been busy as well,’ she said.

‘So really, how much work could he actually have done?’

It remains to be seen if Prince Harry will respond to these latest claims.

Key Takeaways

  • Employees at BetterUp, where Prince Harry holds a Chief Impact Officer role with an alleged seven-figure salary, are reportedly discontented with the small amount of work Harry contributes.
  • BetterUp has recently faced financial struggles, laying off over 100 employees last week, which has reportedly sparked frustration from coworkers regarding Harry's level of input.
  • His role at BetterUp is listed equally to the two co-founders on the company's leadership page but provides little detail of his responsibilities.
  • Broadcaster Esther Krakue stated that any value Prince Harry provides for the company comes from his public reputation, doubting his effectiveness due to other commitments such as Netflix and the Invictus Games.

We think it's worth watching how the situation unfolds from here–will Harry's work and income from BetterUp be scrutinised further? Time will tell!

The way the pair of them have acted since stepping down from doing F**kall? to making a shitload of money simply by pandering to media hungry idiots, in unwarranted attacks on thier respective families in telling embellished and proven lies personally I wouldn't cros the road to piss on either of them. And I'm in no way a Royalist just that I think some things are sacrosact and family is one of them, you don't wash your dirty linen in public.

Don't think anyone should be paid if they don't work.

Since stepping away from the Royal family and in their words living in a goldfish bowl they have gone on to a life of media speculation. It seems to me that since stepping down the media frenzy has increased exponentially, I'm sure I see far more written about them than before and quite frankly I'm over it, I don't need to be told every time they breathe in or out. Let them sink or swim by their own actions and let's not judge them in the court of public opinion.

If that company, BetterUp is stupid enough to employ someone like Harry, who has no skills or training for the role, it's no wonder they've had to sack staff. Personally, after all the prima donna tantrums he and his wife have performed in the past, I am not interested in anything they do and neither are thousands of other people. I haven't read his book, and won't, I do not watch their whining TV tell-alls either. To employ such a spoiled brat to promote anything is well and truly beyond me and I certainly wouldn't give any credit to any company he was involved in.

Not sure what he was expected to do, must be in his job description, but many people get paid to do nothing more than wearing a company's shoes, and Harry does have credits for helping in this area. Whether he's value for money is up to the board.

None of which has anything to do with the subject matter.

That's been his life from day 1. What's new? Not any difference to the non talented celebrities that wear a certain $10k outfit and upload to insta or other social media sites that then results in another $100k into their coffers.

I would imagine that Betterup employed him and even gave him a made up title because they hoped to gain financially by the use of his name and they probably have. No-one forced them to hire him or pay him exorbitant wages. They got what they paid for - his name and his discussing their work in places they maybe couldn’t achieve themselves.

I think lending one’s name to anything has any real value and I include all so called influencers in this . A person can recommend something and then it is up to a sensible person to make up their own mind on the subject. Anyone who pays any attention to influencers has to be a fool, in my opinion. It seems to me that the Sussex pair expect to be rewarded with scads of money for just having a name without putting in any real effort to improve the lives of others. It’s real effort that impresses me, not standing around looking pretty or turning up to expensively catered events or smiling for cameras etc.

If he was not sponging on the Name Prince Harry who would want him, so much for leaving the Royal Family. If he stops cashing in on the name people might believe him but that is doubtful.

Ever heard the saying the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer…the people who work with him should do something about it

What exactly is an "Impact Officer"? How much impact has Harry had in the role (not much if the downsizing redundancies are anything to go by)?

The only currency the Sussexes had when they left was their connection to the Royal family and they were paid handsomely for their vitriolic spewing. But now that ship has sailed (no recent photos of them with the rest of the royals for example) and the world tiring of their victimhood, where are they going to get the money to fund their rather extravagant lifestyle?
