New “life-changing” Woolworths feature stuns social media — “My shopping will be so cheap this way!”

Have you ever wished you could track your grocery shopping in real-time, so you know exactly how much you're spending and how much damage you're doing to your wallet?

Well, supermarket giant Woolworths has recently introduced a new Scan & Go feature that exactly does that and shoppers are loving it!

Sydney TikTok user Queenie Tan, who has gained a following for sharing little-known money-saving tips on social media, has recently discovered the feature on her Woolworths app and was quick to sing its praises, describing it as "life-changing".

Sharing a video of her exciting find, Queenie said: "You need to try this Woolies hack!”

“Just open the Woolworths app and click on settings [then] Scan & Go.”

The clip then showed the Sydneysider shopping at her local Woolies store, informing the viewers that the feature lets customers use their smartphones to scan the barcodes of the items they want to buy as they put them in their bag or trolley.

Queenie said: “You will see how much it will cost and how many items you have.”

“I don’t have to be shocked at the counter anymore."

And when the customers are done shopping, they just simply head to the dedicated Scan & Go checkout and pay – without having to go through the main checkout line.

"All that's left to do is pay and leave," the TikTok user said.

It's quick, it's easy, and it's becoming increasingly popular with shoppers who are looking for a more efficient way to shop.

Queenie's video has gone viral, amassing more than 790,000 views and over 900 comments.

One user wrote: “My shopping will be so cheap this way.”

“I was going to do this a while ago then totally forgot about it! Thanks for the reminder," another quipped.

A third chimed in: “That’s pretty cool. Don’t think my Woolies has it though.”

A Woolworths spokesperson confirmed that the new feature is the company's way to introduce a "smarter" — meaning, technologically advanced — way of shopping at its stores.

“Scan & Go is the faster, smarter way to shop for your groceries at Woolworths,” the spokesperson said.

“Customers download the app on their phone and simply scan the product barcodes as they walk through the store if Scan & Go is offered at their local store.”

Ben Garvan, Woolworths head of digital in-store, said that the retailer also offers this new feature to help customers budget their spending on groceries.

It should be noted, however, that the feature is currently only available in 49 stores across the country.

While this feature is not yet available at all Woolworths stores, it is hoped that it will be rolled out to all stores in the near future. In the meantime, shoppers who are lucky enough to have access to Scan & Go are loving it and finding it to be a huge time-saver.

Are you looking forward to trying this new Woolworths feature? Also, if you aren’t too good with downloading phone applications we recommend checking out this article on how to install applications on your phone.

I think it’s a good idea it would need some safe guards around theft. I guess you still have to bag and weigh the items you’ve purchased. I’m guessing people don’t have to scan everything at the self service checkouts either,if they really want to steal

So you're halfway through your shopping when you change your mind and decide to swap one item for another ... how do you cancel/deduct the original?

Is this yet another way to eliminate staff. I never go through the staff free checkouts. Think of those young staff who depend on their jobs while studying.
I like to have a chat to the staff member who is serving me Helps to keep someones job Soon there will be no one in the store

I don't think this is at my local Woolies and I don't think I'd use it if they did.
Doing other check out operators out of a job..soon we won't have
any interaction with humans. On-
line etc.shopping. this is not the way to build community spirit !!

OMG. I’ve been using it for years. Best way to shop hands down. Beats the cashiers or self serve. Woolies beats Coles or Aldi hands down.

You are responsible for what is in your basket/trolley. You should not be "shocked" at the register! This is just another way for dishonest people to steal and increase prices for the rest of the shoppers.
Quite right I already do this in my head as I put items in the trolly I add them up and am with a couple of dollars at the checkout, I can handle that.

I just hope people are honest and scan everything in their trolley

My immediate concern how do Woolworths know if everything in the persons trolley has been scanned - seems a dream for stealthy shop lifters to take a few extra items and if there are any queries a case of "I'm sure I scanned them must be something wrong with the app/phone" response if caught out?

So what’s to stop people putting items in their trolley that they haven’t scanned?
The stores have cameras in them, plus staff packing shelves etc. Not that that will stop determined thieves.
