One Woolies customer has spoken to 7NEWS about her disappointment regarding the latest Mother's Day buys at her local store.

While browsing the range of gift ideas on the supermarket shelves, Shelley from NSW was left frustrated when she made an "un-Australian" discovery among the items.

Apparently, there was a framed print among the displays that included a floral design and the words: "Best Mom Ever".

This would have been fine and all except for one glaring detail – the picture frame included the American spelling of the word "Mom", instead of "Mum”, which is obviously how we spell the word in Australian English.

"Pretty disappointed at the spelling of 'mum'," Shelley said. "Last time I checked, we're living in Australia and Woolies is an Australian store."

The mum added that she doesn't want her kids giving her presents with the word "mom" on them, since she is not an American.

"This is just un-Australian," she said. "Lift your game, Woolies."

Aside from giving them gifts and presents, there are many more ways for people to appreciate their mums and the mum-figures (stepmums, relatives, guardians, close family friends, etc.) in their lives.

You can also use the weekend to attend various Mother's Day events and activities, such as:

• Organised walks or runs to raise money for causes such as breast cancer research.
• Visits to the zoo, movies, botanical gardens, or other places of interest.
• Breakfasts, brunches, lunches, afternoon teas or dinners at restaurants, cafes, or at home.
• Having a picnic in the park or the beach, if the weather allows it.

Possibly the WOW Buyer cannot Spell or Read! It is insulting, and unfortunately, indicative of the great lack of care taken by so many these days. That said, if you like the frame, and the price suits, buy it and replace the print with pictures or photos that you like - a good opportunity to hv all yr frames matching in size and colour. Probably made in China for 15 cents each anyway.

I think you would be lucky anything that comes from Australia. I like to make things even chocolates and you can paint them as well, or cookies, something personal.

I'm forever correcting my computer for spelling things the American way. My 50+ year old son as taken to start calling me Mother !

When I play word games on the phone I have never heard of some of the words and the spelling is American

I am disappointed at the "Americanisation" of our English language, not just the spelling but also the pronunciation of now so many words, ceramoany, contraversy, etc., etc. The spelling i have used is to highlight the way it is said in America.

Has anyone noticed that our Ads on TV are also with American accents. Don't we have anyone here who can speak properly.
