McDonald's drops MAJOR service upgrade – Here’s what changed

Have you ever craved a cheeseburger from McDonald’s, but just couldn’t bring yourself to leave the couch?

Well, McDonald’s Australia has heard your pleas and is rolling out a new service across the country in the next few weeks!

Finally you can get your favourite burgers and fries delivered right to your door!

A spokeswoman told reporters that the McDelivery is now available in participating stores across New South Wales via the MyMacca’s app.

Don’t worry, the service will be made available in more restaurants across Australia in the coming weeks.

The spokeswoman shared: ‘McDelivery allows customers to place delivery orders using the MyMacca’s app, while also earning and redeeming MyMacca’s Rewards points.’

The spokeswoman added that the new service is a part of the fast food chain’s ‘ongoing commitment’ to providing greater value, convenience, and rewards to their consumers. Though, this doesn’t mean that McDonald’s will be unavailable in other delivery services or platforms in the country.

You can still order your go-to meal at Macca’s via Uber Eats, Menulog, and DoorDash. But McDelivery is the only way to claim extra rewards.

‘Customers can check their MyMacca’s app to see if McDelivery is available at a restaurant near them,’ the spokeswoman explained.

So what are the fees?
  • Delivery costs are in line with existing partner pricing.
  • Fees on orders of $12 or more will be $3.99, plus a 5 per cent customer service fee. This will be applied to the total.
  • Orders under $12 will be charged a $2 minimum order fee.
More information on the nationwide rollout of the delivery service will be available in the coming weeks.

‘We’re always listening to our customers and looking at ways we can evolve their experience through innovation,’ Mark Wheeler, Digital Director at McDonald’s Australia, said at the time the app was launched.

The loyalty scheme, which was launched in May 2022, offered customers 100 points for every $1 spent on eligible food and drink purchases using the MyMacca’s app.

Despite the exciting announcement, news of the McDelivery service garnered mixed reactions from Aussies – with many taking to social media to voice out their thoughts.

‘About time, Asia has had this for frigging ages. Just roll it out,’ one person wrote.

Another wrote: ‘Who cares? Platforms like UberEats and Menulog etc. have been delivering it for years.’

While another social media user asked if the food will be cheaper if ordered via the app. ‘Or will the food arrive hot with the correct order? I doubt it,’ they added.

And some even speculated that the delivery service may be a ‘hint’ to the end of McDonald’s dine-in restaurants.

‘You watch! They won’t have restaurants soon,’ one claimed.

McDonald’s Australia opened over 50 years ago with the first restaurant in the Sydney suburb of Yagoona in 1971. Despite its popularity, did you know that residents in a small town in Tecoma, went against the construction of a new McDonald’s restaurant?

Some of you may remember that in 2011, the Tecoma Village Action Group was approached in relation to the establishment of a new McDonald’s restaurant in the town. Protesters sprang into action and sent about 1,170 written objections to the Yarra Ranges Council. These objections included concerns about increased traffic and rubbish in their community and the impact this new restaurant will have on local businesses.

That same month, the Council met at a reception centre to vote on the development of a new Macca’s restaurant on the Burwood Highway. The Council rejected the proposal, prompting the fast food chain to take its plans to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) for a review.

VCAT overturned the council’s decision and allowed the development to proceed, which angered the local residents. A few days after the decision was made, the residents began a 24-hour-a-day vigil.

Fast forward to 2013, and about 4,000 people took to the streets to protest against McDonald’s and as a show of support for the so-called ‘Tecoma Eight’, who were community protesters at the time.

The ‘battle’ lasted for about three years. McDonald’s claimed victory and opened a store in the Dandenong Ranges in April 2014.
Key Takeaways

  • McDonald’s Australia has confirmed they now have their own delivery service, which is currently available across NSW via the MyMacca's app. It will include other states in the coming weeks.
  • The McDonald's spokeswoman outlined the delivery costs for the new service.
  • News of the delivery service has had a mixed reaction from Aussies, with some people being concerned about the quality of the food after it's been delivered.
  • There are suggestions that the service may eventually contribute to the end of McDonald's dine-in stores.

The best story I've heard for a lazy couch potato getting home delivery was ..... The guy lived next door to a Chinese restaurant, he would phone up and get it delivered .... but the funny part is, it wasnt delivered to his door, it was passed in through a window to him on the couch, he quite literally didn't even have to standup.

I bet this will not be offered right across Australia as stated but only in the capital cities. Us rural folk will once again miss out, not that I'm complaining as I never eat the stuff but I bet others would be quite miffed. :( :(
Sadly our regional peeps get forgotten or charged exorbitant fees for delivery ie Kmart hits regional shoppers harshly as do many online or bricks and mortar providers.

That's dreadful. The lazy fat people who won't cook proper food for themselves will now get fatter because they won't even have to leave their house to buy this stuff. 🙄

Oh I forgot to add, Parkinson's brain definitely got me this morning lol, remember that if you do go to Macca's if anyone spends over $4 and you show your state's seniors card you can get a regular hot drink, small orange juice or if you like a fizzy hit a small drink for free ☕🧃🥤
My local maccas give seniors 20% off.
It’s not maccas norm.
It’s the owner of the franchise choice 😋

Why anyone would want to eat any of that shit sold by Maccas is a puzzle to me. It is not healthy at all & just makes people reliant on cheap, unhealthy food that is far too easily accessible.

I forgot how the free drink worked, thankyou, but you watch I’ll forget within a few minutes, brain for 🤪 it’ll fog over and hid it for a while 😂

The only time I use McDonalds is when I'm on a long-distance drive and I need to go....... if you follow; and I'd give it a few minutes...;)

I remember the first Macas at Yagoona, we would always drop in on our way home from the city and eat in. The burgers were HUGE, the milkshakes were stunning, thick shakes were even better and the salads were fresh and tasty. What the hell happened Maccas? The famous Big Mac is more like a cream cheese and biscuit snack now and not to mention the french fries which were actually made from potatoes instead of the more recent woodchips. Those were the days.
