March 2024 Pension Indexation: What to Expect

As the calendar pages turn, we find ourselves looking towards March. If you’re one of the over 2.5 million Australians who receive the Age Pension, you’re likely eager to know how much extra money you can expect in your account after the next pension indexation.

a whole $19.60c. woopee, --just proves how ignorant and un-caring ALBO and co choose to be.
when it suits them.
what`s that going to buy? an extra packet of dog treats.

I’d like to know why a married person (with a spouse not quite pension age), is assessed as a full couple for the asset limits, but can only get paid half the couple pension. if You’re only getting paid half the pension then the assets should be halved as well. Should be paid single pension until you actually are a couple on the pension. Unless You’re indigenous. Then you get more of everything. And I’m not racist But Albaneze clearly is racist against white people.

An increase of $19.50 a fortnight, what is that going to help with.?. you get a couple of things from I G A ( if you `re careful) .and it`s gone.
just prove how ignorant and out of reach albo and his crew of boof heads are.

I agree with all that Mitchell Lowe said,we have all of us as employed aussies over the years earned the right and paid our taxes to retire without the problems of wondering where we are going to find the next dollar.i do not agree that these so called unemployed who are to la

Here in Tasmania I just got a letter from Taswater would we be willing to pay $30,000 to $80,000 to connect to sewerage, sure what pensioner would have a spare $30,000
Tell them to get stuffed....$30,000.....

Unfortunately the goal posts keep changing it doesn't matter which politician is in power. Super was introduced as all the political parties realised the country can't afford to support all the aged moving forward. We are living alot longer.

They should have thought about that..... oh yes.... I forgot... they don't think past their noses.

I am on jobseeker and I would love to have a job that would pay my rent, electricty, water. I am not one of those lazy so called dole bludgers I have medical issues which stop me from being employed again. I have worked all my adult life except when I had my son 32 years ago ( for a year I was home) I was made redundant in 2015 and since then have suffered migraines and carpal tunnel in both hands...
I was happy to receive the small increase as paying private rent and getting rent assistance which helps with my payments I still find it hard at times especially when my rent goes up by $25 a week extra. But my son and I have to live somewhere and cannot live with my elderly Mum. So as much as I receive I am left with around $100 a fortnight and that is suppose to cover food, electricity and water. I am lucky I am not on more medications than I am or else I wouldn't be able to get them, I am lucky though that my son is living with me and helps me out every fortnight.
I grinds my gears when I see that the politicians who do not have to worry about rent etc etc get pay increases..... I honestly would like to see them live on what pensioners etc rely on.
As for single parents I have my own views on that matter only going to say that I had a close friend who had babies all the time just to get money from Centrelink, and she was proud of it... I told her she is scamming the system she told me tough.... last I heard her oldest daughter had her 3rd child....
Yes, I have three stepdaughters
who made this their chosen life style (15 kids between them).
All of these kids are now grown up, all the girls are now single mums and the boys on jobseeker. They all know how to work the system. It's disgusting.

Just to be clear about the dole increase, it is quoted for those over 55. Hardly bludgers living off the scheme. It's pretty hard to find an employer at that age, let alone now at 62. Too old to employ too young for pension.

I think this disgusting and degrading to us age pensioners we have worked hard all our lives and for what. The younger people who have not wanted to work are sitting at home reeping in the benefits while we recieve $19.50 that's just ridiculous the food is still high in prices and we still can't afford most things.

How can anyone in authority with a conscience think that this measly increase is in any way fair?! Politicians regularly get huge % increases on their already massive incomes without having to bat an eyelid, but pensioners are left to struggle on a pittance with measly increases that should cause embarassment to those who authorise it - yet they boast about how generous it is! I would like to see politicians swap their increases with pensioners for a couple of years to give pensioners a small chance of getting on top. The gap between the haves and have-nots is getting so huge that I am starting to wonder if those in authority are anticipating natural attrition - death of pensioners due to insufficient funds to feed and care for themselves. It's criminal & it should be addressed. Pensioners deserve the right to live in comfort - not in fear which is borne of insufficient funds that necessitate the decision to go without food, power use or medical care. How, how soon and by whom can this discrimination be addressed? Pensioners are people who have often contributed much more to the country & economy than many other sectors that receive more significant funds, but this seems to be irrelevant - this contribution needs to be taken into account & addressed urgently and much more fairly.

Ggrateful for any rise in my pension but $19 a fortnight isn't going to make a great difference with the cost of living the way it is each time I go shopping it's getting more expensive petrol is murder and I could go on and on I dont know how much of a rise would be sufficient but it just keeps getting harder and harder and it seems pensioners are getting left further and further pushed aside

I'm grateful for any increase, but let's face it, an additional $20.00 per fortnight won't make the slightest bit of difference. My rent now (after the increase in December) takes up just under half of my fortnightly pension, the other half gets swallowed up in power and phone bills leaving very little left over for anything else. I can guarantee you that come the next pay rise for our politicians, it will be way, way more than a poultry $20.00

It is indeed unfortunate if you have been unable to purchase a house during your lifetime. However there is no indexing for those self funded retirees who have to put up with increases in food, rates, utilities etc etc. They made the big sacrifices to put a roof over their heads. In Land Lease villages those who bought a modest home can still access rent allowance and numerous stay at home benefits that are not available to self funded. Just to even up the argument

I live in Public Housing and as soon as we get a rise they take 25% back for rent and 25% for water so why bother giving it us in one hand and out the other .Not every Pensioner is fortuate enough to own their homes .
I don't own a house but this is paltry . Same ol' Same ol for Pensioners and I don't see anyone Screaming support for us ? Also who is giving the electricity rebate of $125 ? Is it Albanese , 'cause he already has reneged on the Vote Promise !!!

Hi Marni, I totally agree with you. I know a few self-funded retirees and am appalled at how little help they actually receive. Deeming rates too need to be addressed as for years they have been docked way more than what they have actually received in interest payments.

Hi I worked at Bunnings for nine years but tore my rotator cuff at work but because I did this after retirement age work cover only covered me for 10 months ,as I now have a frozen shoulder and no copacity to work at the moment I no longer have work cover so had to under duress resign this is a government mandate so how can we stay in the work force after retirement age if we will not get work cover .Doesn’t make any sense if the government want us to work longer don’t understand

When house and contents insurance increases by 25% over 2 years and you insure your property according to valuation replacement the pension increase is a joke considering all other cost of living increases.
