i was a carer for over ten years and in the end it was a 24hour per day job watching my wife slowly dying and i sat there watching the unemployed eventually getting nearly the same as my welfare payment
The most i received per fortnight was $760 for working everyday 7 days a week and i am not sure what the unemployed receive but i think it is close to $600 now but do not quote me
What do they do for their payments NOTHING
DONT NEED A CAR .SHARE HOUSING OR LIVE AT HOME OR WITH A PARTNER WHO ALSO WOULD BE ON WELFARE WHERE AS ELDERLY DO NOT SHARE HOUSES WITH ANYONE USUALLY.
ONCE THEIR PARNER PASSES AND THEY ARE ON THERE OWN THE EXPENCES ARE STILL NEARLY THE SAME
THE FRIDGE AND FREEZER ARE ON ALL DAY IRREGAURDLESS WHO LIVES IN A HOUSE
AS MARRIED COUPLE GET UP USUALLY THE SAME TIMEIF RETIRED THEY BOTH TURN ON LIGHTS AND TVS TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME
THEY EAT THE SAME TIME SO THESE BILLS DO NOT CHANGE ELECTRICITY AND GAS
INTERNET IS THE SAME IF ONE PERSON IS IIN THE HOUSE OR IF THERE IS THREE
COUNCIL RATES ARE THE SAME FOR ONE AS IT IS FOR 4

i have a stepson who is 50 and been on unemployment for over 32 years
He has only worked once for 6 months in that 32years
His natural family on his fathers side are the same
THEY ALL LIVE AT HOME WITH PARTNERS WHO NEVER WORK WORKED
CENTRELINK DOES NOT CHECK ON ANYBODY NOWADAYS
I WOULD BET THAT AT LEAST %80 of unemployed are in the same boat and why not
they do not need a car

I didn't mean they couldn't raise the amount anytime they want to, I was just pointing out that we have received a raise every six months, not that Albo had given a few and Morrison only once.
We have received six monthly rises for as long as I can remember, though quite a few years ago now we did receive an extra rise, but still none of them are enough, and for a quite a while there they were only a few miserly dollars, tied to CPI.
It would would work out better I think if it was tied to inflation, but I'm not a mathematician.

actually i asked the then social minister responsible for giving out the pension increases AMANDA RUSHTON And she told me that centre link payments were based on a certain formula
That was a load of crap as it has been proven that is a load of crap
They can break the rules whenever the govt wants
TAKE THE %1.8 cent pay rise and compare it to the %4 pay rise politicians gave themselves plus $4,000 dollars in tax cuts HOW DOES THESE TAX CUTS HELP WELFARE PEOPLE
THIS GOVT DOES NOT RESPECT THE FACT THAT BABY BOOMERS WERE BORN FROM WAR TORN COUNTRIES

I do actually remember that, now that you mention it.
This is the problem with rises being tied to the CPI. I'm sure if it was tied to inflation the rises would be higher.
The age,disability and carer recipients seem to always get the raw end of the prawn.
The carer allowance is very miserly. I receive two carer
allowances, as I am carer for my daughter and my husband. This is like a 24 hour a day job. I am
constantly on the road for Dr., hospital and specialist appointments and as I live in the country most of this allowance goes on petrol and car expenses. Carers are very undervalued by the government, the allowance I receive fortnightly for both would not cover the cost for one day for one of them if I was not able to do this and they had to go into care.

i can no longer afford house insurance and car insurance or afford to drive anywhere other than doctors or shopping
because of the virus and a disabled sick wife i struggleD every day and dont forget i had to remorgage my house and get no govt relief
Instead i get higher council rates which is over $2000 and i am virtually forced to get the internet and a mobile phone which costs over $100 a month with no consideration in the pension as everything nowadays requires us to get to pay bills etc....
