Makeover on a budget? Revitalise your living space with this $29 Kmart find

More and more homeowners are becoming inventive, with many sharing creative ways to transform their homes on a budget.

Some have a knack for uncovering hidden gems within the aisles of Kmart, transforming everyday items into creative solutions for home and garden.

The latest buzz circling through the grapevine of thrifty shoppers is a versatile $29 Kmart find making waves beyond its intended use—the Telescopic Shower Caddy.

This isn't the first time a Kmart product has been repurposed in a way that's caught the attention of savvy consumers.

From turning laundry hampers into stylish bin stations to crafting children's clothing out of tea towels, the creativity of Aussies knows no bounds.

But this time, the green thumbs and plant lovers are leading the charge, having discovered a brilliant new use for this affordable bathroom accessory.

The Telescopic Shower Caddy, priced at a modest $29, is designed to stand tall between 210 and 310cm, making it a perfect candidate for an impromptu plant stand.

The idea took root in the popular Facebook group Crazy Indoor Plant People Australia, where a member asked whether anyone had used the caddy to showcase plants.

'It looks similar to that pole thing from Urban Jungle that is $140,' the social media user noted, sparking a flurry of responses from others who had already adopted the idea.

Images shared by one shopper showed a collection of plants happily perched on the caddy's shelves, having used it for over six months without any issues.

'We have it in our lounge! The shelves are not very big though, so only small pots work,' commented one group member.

Another added, 'I've been using mine for over 12 months now, we love it. Good for hanging plants, pot plants, and plants that love to climb!'

The enthusiasm was palpable as more users chimed in with their own experiences.

'I have two! They're still in my bathroom, so absolutely counts. I wouldn't put super heavy plants on them, but for my little ones, they're…perfect,' shared another plant enthusiast.

While the Kmart item has been a hit among many, some shoppers admitted a preference for the pricier $140 version.

'For plants, one million per cent go the Urban Jungle one. It's by far superior. It is stronger, the hooks are awesome, and it looks much nicer,' one user advised.

Another stated: ‘Much better quality. It’s a false economy paying less for the Kmart product when it breaks so easily.’

For those who are considering this Kmart item for their own home, it's worth noting that while it may not be built to hold a jungle, it's certainly capable of adding a touch of greenery to any room.

It's an ideal solution for small pots, succulents, and lightweight hanging plants, adding vertical interest and a breath of fresh air to your living space.

As always, when it comes to budget-friendly home makeovers, it's important to weigh the cost against the quality and longevity of the product.

While the Kmart caddy offers an affordable alternative, ensure it meets your needs and expectations before making the purchase.

I had a gold plant pole inside in my lounge room in the 70's, it looked beautiful.
Then it happened, my child in baby walker knocked into the bottom of the pole, causing it to tip and spill all the contents of pots into the opened stereo. Thank goodness the pots stayed on the pole and missed the child. BIG NO FROM ME.

Now I'm curious how the stereo fared

But on a more serious note, it's great that this reminds everyone to be mindful of how and where they place the caddy, if they'll try it.

I also had a gold coloured plant stand filled with plants. One Xmas a guest hit the bottom of the stand with their foot, the plant stand with all the plants fell across the table which was laden with food. No need to say more. What a disaster.

Bought one many ,many years ago for my previous house, moved it around a bit into different locations. It was not expensive came from a shop like Red Dot

We go ours from Costco, I believe it cost $99 at the time and never even thought to use it other than the way it was advertised.

The stereo was a dark timber cabinet, the lid lifted up to show the record player. It was filled with damp soil, a terrible mess. I was still vacuuming up dust out of it weeks after. Did I mention the cream shag pile carpet. 🤔 Well that's another story.

Kenmaur....that was seriously unfortunate and sad for you.....if it had happened today it would not have been so bad, as a lot of people enjoy eating 'plant food'.....😂.....just a touch of humour for you today, nothing more ok.
