On Sunday, February 6, Queen Elizabeth II will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee – an event to mark the 70 years of service since Her Majesty ascended to the throne.

And of course, a royal celebration comes with royal souvenirs!

However, thousands of plates, mugs, and tea sets commemorating the Queen’s historic milestone were found being sold online as a gag by a British wholesaling company online, after a glaring problem was found on the inscription.

Yes, you read that right.

The pieces of memorabilia feature a painted picture of the Queen, along with the words: “To commemorate the Platinum Jubbly of Queen Elizabeth II.” Royal yikes…

Apparently, a Chinese manufacturing company partnered with a company in the UK to produce wonderful souvenir items ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. However, after spotting the obvious translation error in the prints, the Chinese company was left “high and dry” when their partners in the UK rejected the stocks.

Now left without a home, the 10,800 pieces of “limited edition” Queen's Platinum Jubilee decorative plates, mugs, and tea sets were taken in by Wholesale Clearance UK and are up for purchase on their site.

Wholesale Clearance UK, a British company known for selling excess and end-of-line stocks, listed the royal souvenirs online which read: “If you close your eyes, you can almost hear those immortal words from Britain's favourite businessman ringing through the halls of Nelson Mandela House. But in typical Only Fools manner, this isn't exactly as expected!”

“You will notice this is probably more at home on the shelf next to Peckham Spring as these are in fact celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubbly! These are...as you say...the Creme de la Menthe!” they added.

They also appealed to the fans of the long-running British sitcom Only Fools and Horses, as it features a character named Del Boy with the catchphrase “lovely jubbly”, similar to the misspelled print.

With all the amount of plates you’re going to get after the purchase, they even suggested taking up plate spinning as a hobby!

The entire royal souvenir collection is currently being sold for $61,400 AUD, around $5 AUD per item.

We used to call frozen iced drinks in triangular packs, eg Sunnyboys, jubblies.
When my wedding invitations were printed by a highly reputable company in embossed gold, they required the order 2 months ahead of being required.
I paid a 50% deposit when I placed the order. They were busy and took 3 weeks longer than expected.....arriving the week they were due to be posted out.
When I read through them, they had printed
the word "and" twice....one 'and' at the end of the line and the second 'and' at the start of the next line....."and
and afterwards at" ...
They reprinted them overnight!

What is worse a lot of commemorative plates from Doulton etc cannot be used to eat off. So why would you want to display these lovely jubbly items. Good old Chinese another bit of junk that is worthless.

I fully agree - what's the point of this? Also, this is probably the ugliest image of the ERII I have ever seen - it's so ugly, it's actually insulting!
