'It's time to change it up': Patricia Karvelas announces significant career move after tenure with Radio National

In the ever-evolving Australian media landscape, familiar voices often become the comforting constants that guide people through tumultuous times.

One such voice is that of Patricia Karvelas—a staple for listeners of Radio National (RN) for a decade.

However, Karvelas's recent announcement could shake up the political coverage landscape.

Karvelas announced that she is stepping away from RN to embrace a new role in the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

Karvelas, who has been with RN Breakfast since 2021, is no stranger to the intricacies of political reporting.

Her sharp interviewing skills and ability to dissect complex issues made her a respected journalist.

As she departs from her role at RN, the ABC hinted at Karvelas possibly delving deeper into Australian politics.

Starting next year, Karvelas will focus on politics by becoming a key anchor. She will also potentially host a new politics-themed podcast to be run by the network.

'After a decade, it's time to change it up, and I'm ready to lean into a new cross-platform role,' Karvelas stated.

'I want to thank the ABC for the opportunities it has provided me through my decade here. It continues to be the most important public institution in the country in my view, and I want to help build its connections with voters across the country.'

The move was more than a career progression for Karvelas; it also represented a potential shift in how news is being delivered to the public.

While details about her new projects are yet to be announced, onlookers are looking forward to the change it could bring to political discourse in the country.

ABC's decision to put Karvelas in a more politics-focused role showed the network's commitment to robust and incisive political reporting during a critical period.

With issues such as climate change policy, the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, and international relations, Aussies have been looking for clear, authoritative voices that could help navigate these topics.

The ABC's Director of News, Justin Stevens, commended Karvelas for her commitment to journalism.

'She has done a superb job over many years on the RN network,' Mr Stevens shared.

'We are excited to see her have a broader audience across audio, TV and digital for ABC News.'

This change could signal a new era of political coverage.

It's a reminder that the media landscape is not static, and change could bring new opportunities for engagement, education, and insight.

With a career marked by a commitment to truth and a passion for storytelling, Patricia Karvelas is poised to continue making a significant impact on Australian media.

She is not fair minded and operates at the extreme left wing sphere. The ABC i# excited because it fosters deliberate misinformation and outright lies.

Your head for this post says "What's next for them?" How many people are you referring to in the article? Why the plural pronoun? If you want to refer to a person in these PC, woke days, why not drop the singular pronouns entirely and come across as stupid as the modern-day language revisionists appear to be?

I will be watching, listening where ever you go, to me what you have to say about politics etc because you don't have misinformation or disinformation you are a very truthful person you go girl good luck.

You can only say that because you are certain that she is espousing her left wing ideology which you agree with. You seem to forget that we pay for the ABC to allow for opposing views in a fair and balanced way not the rubbish that they espouse. Isn’t funny how she has a very much harder attack on the politicians that don’t agree with her political leanings.

Are you saying that my son, the News Breakfast and Mornings Weatherman and science reporter is giving misinformation and outright lies just because he works for the ABC?
He is an actual meteorologist and oceanographer who writes his own reports every day, he also has a masters in science communication. He is not just an autocue reader, performer or set dresser doing fancy antics to hide the fact they don't understand what they're on about.

Well I can understand your sensitivity about your son and his qualifications but the emphasis was about political bias of the ABC. I doubt giving out weather reports falls in to that category. Your son needs to make a living and he obviously has done well. Presenting the weather report happens in every country in the World no matter what its political structure or leanings. You have missed the point.

I have not missed the point, I was just pointing out that the ABC employ people actually qualified in their chosen professions, most with several years experience. They also take newly qualified and cadets, train them and you see them pop up on other networks once trained. The ABC is also an inclusive employer, they have a wheelchair bound sports reporter, a blind reporter and several from diverse ethnic backgrounds to name a few.
Just because the things being reported on don't align with you thoughts doesn't make it wrong.
