Huge $48 million Bunnings mega-store set to unveil in Australia

Say hello to the colossal new Bunnings Warehouse that’s set to revolutionise shopping in Australia!

Construction of the gargantuan $48 million store is already underway in Sydney’s Frenchs Forest, and it is sure to leave shoppers in awe.

This unprecedented outlet will span an impressive 20,000 square metres and will be the first three-level Bunnings retail outlet in the state of New South Wales.

Spread across two levels of retail space. The store will also feature an extensive garden centre, kitchen cafe, kids’ playground and parking for a whopping 400 vehicles.

The entire shopping mall is expected to generate more than 800 jobs and will take two years to complete.

The massive warehouse also ranks among the largest buildings ever constructed by the company.

However, the ambitious project did come across a few roadblocks before construction could even begin.

Since the site was previously occupied by an Australia Post outlet and a two-storey office block, some serious clearance was needed to make room for Bunnings’ ambitious new venture.

Ahead of the project, community members also raised their concerns over the colour of the building and the prominent size of the Bunnings logo set to be displayed on the façade.

People also inquired about whether the warehouse would have a negative impact on the traffic flow in the area, especially considering a high school is being built nearby.

In response to the community’s voiced concerns, Bunnings has announced some major adjustments to its plans.

For starters, the size of the logo will be reduced by 33 per cent, and several ‘hammer’ emblems will be removed from the front of the store.

Additionally, the use of green paint on the external facing of the warehouse has been limited.

Next, to address traffic-related concerns, the main driveway of the Bunnings premises will be relocated to Rodborough Road once traffic signals become operational at the intersection with Allambie Road.

The goal of this measure is to minimise potential traffic congestion and improve the overall safety of both motorists and pedestrians in the area.

This new venture was first announced in 2021 after the retailer received their permit from NSW planning authorities.

Bunnings Regional Operations Manager Alan Harvey told reporters at the time that the company was pleased to receive approval for their new multi-level Bunnings Warehouse.

‘While it is too early to confirm an opening date, we look forward to providing a wide range of home and lifestyle products to the Frenchs Forest community,’ he said previously.

For the past few years, Bunnings has been expanding its services, including launching the Bunnings online store in 2019 in a bid to cater to more customers.

In February this year, it also revealed its plans to expand its product range to include pet products, such as food, toys, dog beds and kennels. This move will pit Bunnings against competition from booming pet specialty stores.

In contrast, it was reported that Woolworths spent $586 million last year to gain a 55 per cent controlling stake in the parent company of the PETstock chain, Petspiration.

It’s understood that this decision will see Bunnings and Woolworths compete over control of the pet supply market.

‘What we are going to be bringing to life in our stores…is quite a comprehensive step change in our pet range, probably the biggest category expansion in Bunnings for 20 years,’ Mike Schneider, Managing Director of Bunnings, said at the time. You can read more about this story here.

Why get excited about it, it will be no use to the rest of Australia but I still find my local store my best favourite shopping visits/

There are Bunnings everywhere , there has been one opened recently near Elimbah Qld . It wouldn’t be long and you go to Bunnings for a haircut , selling cosmetics and you might end up having a massage as well.
I think they should stay with just selling D.I.Y products and garden products

If it isn't in my living vicinity I doubt that I'd bother travelling to it.

I disagree. They are now selling pet products and now the grocery stores & pet stores have had to re-think their prices on a lot of products.

I visit Bunnings about once a week and was there today buying paint and a tarp. I saw a cute little white Staffie girl with a pink diamond collar. It made my day.

No I won't be travelling over 330klms to get to that HUGE Bunnings. I just travel around 70-80klms to My closest Bunnings every few months. I buy most things on line as they are so much cheaper. Bunnings are NOT the cheapest but they usually will have every item You need for a DIY job. Even on a Sunday. We do have a Mitre Ten shop locally who also now have a huge range of goods. I don't think I could walk around a HUGE Bunnings Now. I have enough trouble finding where things are normally.

If you get the Bunnings app you can then search for your item and it will tell you which aisle it is in. The app is made so that it knows which store you are in. That way it always gives you the correct location. So damn good i wish Wollies would do it in their stores.

Do not think Bunnings and Woolworths need to compete for the lions share of pet products as the way things are going, soon, average Aussies will be too poor to own pets!

I think that this is very exciting and even though I live about 100 km away from it I will be chomping at the bit to visit even though I don't drive. What a fantastic day out just to have a look. A great idea Bunnings, well done. May not buy anything but will take my dog with me who makes most of my buying decisions.

Hi, the Woolies app that I am using - you set your store and then do a search for a product and it will show which aisle it is in. I have used it a number of times now to find products that seem to be hiding somewhere down on the bottom shelf!

I'd be overjoyed if the new store came to Croydon Melbourne. Some of THE happiest moments I had with my late husband was twice a week @ Bunnings' during his retirement. We had lunch in the little Cafe', buy what we needed then he updated for me, to show how a new product worked. We both enjoyed a new tool comparing the difference of time to get a job finished. My Dad wanted another boy but I landed in his lap. There's only 2 kinds. He taught me so much that one of our friends' sons became opened eye that I knew between a Philips screw driver & the flat head. A GIRL!!! Such a reward Simple. It is SO necessary in life to know anything & everything you can absorb in your head. You NEVER know when it will come in handy.
Such a reward , for particularly ME when I was first married. My mate was a Vet: one day my neighbour's red setter was in deep trouble with a jaw to jaw bone right across his mouth. I lost no time with that beautiful dog . I purely released him of the bone & pain within seconds. Just keep an eye on someone who is doing something you have not done before. You'll feel yourself SOOOO useful.

Bunnings destroyed the local hardware stores. Now they are getting bigger and bigger. Quality of so many items sold are rubbish.
Ask people who work there what is it really like. Huge huge profits

I was at Bunnings the other day and went to checkout the Ryobi One+ (plus) items on special. Sure enough an item I had my eye on went on extra special and was down to $80 (retails). I saw it about 4 weeks ago down to $128 and then I saw it for $80 so I had to have it and grateful for a great buy, but sure enough at the checkout it scanned full price. You have to be careful as some items may be marked down in store but not on their register.

I also purchased a couple of items I needed.

Bunnings have a huge range and great variety of items, plus many stores in the city areas.

Now all I need is a Sausage sandwich.
