Home hacks queen shares few 'perfect laundry' tips: "Don't overdo it on laundry detergent"

Organisation queen Carolina McCauley is back to share a few household tips with us.
This time, she's sharing a few laundry tips and tricks she swears by – including an often-ignored spot to clean to prevent mould in your washing machine.
To freshen and soften her clothes in the wash, the mum-of-two from Perth no longer uses store-bought fabric softener. Instead, she uses white vinegar and essential oil for an affordable and natural alternative.
Carolina claims that using white vinegar on her clothes and fabrics leaves them feeling softer for longer. Plus, it removes the lingering strong smell which usually comes from store-bought solutions.
She also adds a few drops of her favourite essential oils to her laundry before cleaning them for that added fragrance.

Carolina also advised to go easy on the amount of detergent used when washing clothes. "Don't overdo it on laundry detergent," she said in her TikTok video.
Apparently, using too much laundry detergent can wear down your washing machine and make your clothes smell.
Excess amounts of detergent leave a residue inside the washing machine that traps odours throughout the day which can stick to your clothes. The leftover residue also keeps water trapped, which results in the washers not draining properly – causing damage to your machine's pumps and motors.
When it comes to sorting your laundry, Carolina also suggests separately washing your bathroom towels and clothes. This way, bacteria from different fabrics won't be transferred between items.
Bathroom towels collect and absorb bacteria and skin cells each time we use them, so the sanitation required for them to become clean again (they need to be washed on hot and on a long wash cycle) is different to the clothing that we wear.
And finally, when it comes to cleaning your washing machine, the Perth mum advises her viewers to regularly check and clean the interior rubber seal with a cloth to prevent any mould buildups.
