Great News! Seniors can get a petrol discount at United Petroleum

Here at the Seniors Discount Club, it's our mission to help Australian seniors get the best out of life without breaking the bank.

So it's with great excitement that we announce a wonderful–and much-needed–initiative by the New South Wales (NSW) government and United Petroleum.

The state government has roared into action, securing a fuel discount for seniors at any participating United service station. Seniors with an NSW Seniors or Seniors Savers card can get a 4 cents discount per litre on petrol.

While it may sound like a couple of cents, it amounts to quite a chunk off your petrol bill. To give it a bit of perspective, our savvy senior, Warren Smith, sheds light on what this might mean.

'The four-cent discount would make a huge difference to all seniors,' Warren insists, and we couldn't agree more.

For example, if you're filling up a tank with about 50 litres of your standard fuel priced at $1.70, you'll save approximately $2 a tank with this discount. Now that's nothing to scoff at! Especially considering how prices seem to levitate every time we turn around.

Recognising the impact of living costs on the elderly, NSW seniors minister Jodie Harrison says the government has left no stone unturned in trying to introduce as many discounts as possible for constituents. In her appeal, she said, 'the rising cost of living was a problem,' stating that this initiative will ‘help keep more money in seniors’ pockets and ease price pressure at the pump’.

Harrison also added that she would welcome businesses to join forces with the government to provide more discounts for seniors.

'If there are any other businesses that want to partner with the NSW government to provide discounts for seniors, I'm all ears,' Harrison declared.

Still, this new partnership is not without criticism. Nationals leader Dugald Saunders earlier pointed out this offer is ‘laughable’ and not better than the regional travel card scheme, where $250 was pre-loaded in a card that could be used at any petrol station. The card could then be used as payment for any transport needs: petrol, taxi trips, bus services, Opal card top-ups or even pre-booked NSW trains. The Minns government, however, halted new applications for this card last July.

‘Mathematically, if you had a car with a 60-litre tank, you'd get $2.40 saving if you filled your car from empty. So you'd have to do that 105 times per year twice a week to save more than the $250 you get from the regional travel card,’ Saunders said.

‘Rather than putting up this silly idea of saving cents per litre at participating stores, let people have what they need,’ he added.

As of writing, it has yet to be confirmed if the same initiative will be available for other states in Australia. But while you wait, you may look around for deals you might find useful in your area with our handy online discounts directory.

For more information, you may visit United Petroleum’s website to take advantage of this sweet deal.

Meanwhile, NSW seniors who still don’t have a seniors card can also get started on getting one here.

I agree that the $250 card is the only fair and equitable option for the government to return to helping seniors to save money. Very few would use enough petrol to get the value of this discount and as already mentioned the Coles and Woolies 4c discount has been in force for years. This United discount is indeed laughable.

for those in other states - you can get easy access to the 4cpl off at United by joining up with the Choice hotels scheme "choice privileges". From there you can access / create an account on the United Petroleum site where you get the 4cpl card added to your smartphone wallet to receive the discount. I know its a blah blah for many people but if you are near a United and they do offer better pricing than the Coles Woolies schemes "at the pump" then this option is available. also not i have no commercial ties with Choice hotels or united, i am just mentioned it as i discovered it by accident when looking for accomoation in brisbane.

Here in WA we can get 4 c off fuel if we spend over $30 on groceries at Coles and I believe another But we did have Woolies doing this until the service changed name so not sure if the new company does this. The WA RAC give a 4c discount on fuel at one of the service stations if you are a member. I dont think we even have the United Servos

Would you Kindly like to share the link where one can apply for this discount as its not on the service nsw website?
@ Tonia - read the article - you produce your seniors card as you do for other products offered to seniors - hope this helps

It's meant to be a cost of living deal. The day of announcement by the NSW government all the pump prices in United stations went up by 4cents a litre. Many friends have reported that their United stations are dearer than the local Ampol. We use United most of the time and they were always 2 to 3c cheaper than the Ampol next door. Now they are 4c dearer on petrol than the Ampol next door.

I’m asking why only United Petroleum?
I haven’t driven into a United fuel-stop since the bad old days when United was caught diluting it’s fuel.
I have a long memory.

I love in regional W.A. so I get a petrol card.
Not all petrol stations accept it and some refuse your member discount PLUS charge a fee, for using petrol card. We need to choose petrol stations, with care.

As of writing, it has yet to be confirmed if the same initiative will be available for other states in Australia. But while you wait, you may look around for deals you might find useful in your area with our handy online discounts directory.

Meanwhile, NSW seniors who still don’t have a seniors card can also get started on getting one here.

Key Takeaways

  • Seniors in NSW will receive a fuel discount of 4 cents off every litre through a partnership with United Petroleum.
  • The fuel discount is expected to save seniors roughly $2 per tank when purchasing about 50 litres of fuel at $1.70.
  • NSW seniors minister Jodie Harrison is open to more businesses providing discounts for seniors due to the rising cost of living.
  • Nationals leader Dugald Saunders earlier said this initiative is ‘laughable’ compared to the regional travel card.
  • It has yet to be confirmed if the discount will be available to other states in Australia.

With these discounts in place, it's hard not to feel like the king of the road. So, fellow members, it's time to hit the highway and enjoy the ride with your well-deserved perks.

It will never happen in Victoria.

United in Wagga was 10 cents dearer than Pearl or Apco so what's the big deal.

I do not support the Coalition but I agree with Dugald Saunders. a
