'The four-cent discount would make a huge difference to all seniors,' Warren insists, and we couldn't agree more.

For example, if you're filling up a tank with about 50 litres of your standard fuel priced at $1.70, you'll save approximately $2 a tank with this discount. Now that's nothing to scoff at! Especially considering how prices seem to levitate every time we turn around.

Nationals leader Dugald Saunders earlier pointed out this offer is ‘laughable’ and not better than the regional travel card scheme, where $250 was pre-loaded in a card that could be used at any petrol station. The card could then be used as payment for any transport needs: petrol, taxi trips, bus services, Opal card top-ups or even pre-booked NSW trains. The Minns government, however, halted new applications for this card last July.

‘Mathematically, if you had a car with a 60-litre tank, you'd get $2.40 saving if you filled your car from empty. So you'd have to do that 105 times per year twice a week to save more than the $250 you get from the regional travel card,’ Saunders said.

‘Rather than putting up this silly idea of saving cents per litre at participating stores, let people have what they need,’ he added.

I already have a United app and get my 4 cents discount. I dont have to use my seniors card. So Jodie Harrison is not helping us to save at all. She is taking away the fact that her NSW government has stopped our $250 regional travel card that the previous government has been giving to regional NSW residents each year. It seems Chris Minns government is only looking after Sydney. The regional card has been great since cost of living is biting more in regional areas. We can use the regional card for petrol, travel taxi only and not for groceries and cigarettes as stated previously. Come on Minns Government look after all your Constituents..

Hi, my husband went to a United Petroleum for petrol and was told that he had the wrong Seniors Card. We have had our cards for a number of years. Is there an updated version?

Utterly pathetic and just a marketing exercise, 4c wasn't a bad deal when petrol, was around $1.00. Todays price in Newcastle was $2.20 for 91. A more reasonable discount of at least 10c would get my custom.

Hang on a second this is BS. Seniors already have a "travel card" which entitles them to $250 annually that can be used either for fuel for the car or, for travel on public transport. If I understand this correctly, the Government are saying "the travel card will now only be able to be used for fuel at a united service station".

What about those of us who live in regional areas. We don't have a "united" service station around the corner or a few blocks away. Let's also think about those who don't own a motor vehicle and use the "travel card" to ride on public transport.

This is nothing short of a con job by yet another Government. from both major parties, that promise the world before an election and then pull the rug out from under your feet the moment the election is over. The existing card will become nothing more than a shopper docket that will have restricted use with only one fuel outlet..... It stinks to high heaven, and someone is getting a kickback from united...

RACT (same as NRMA in NSW) already has this partnership in Tasmania. Very useful as there are plenty of United service stations in Tassie - many more than Coles or Woollies have.
