Great News! Seniors can get a petrol discount at United Petroleum

So it's with great excitement that we announce a wonderful–and much-needed–initiative by the New South Wales (NSW) government and United Petroleum.
The state government has roared into action, securing a fuel discount for seniors at any participating United service station. Seniors with an NSW Seniors or Seniors Savers card can get a 4 cents discount per litre on petrol.
While it may sound like a couple of cents, it amounts to quite a chunk off your petrol bill. To give it a bit of perspective, our savvy senior, Warren Smith, sheds light on what this might mean.
'The four-cent discount would make a huge difference to all seniors,' Warren insists, and we couldn't agree more.
For example, if you're filling up a tank with about 50 litres of your standard fuel priced at $1.70, you'll save approximately $2 a tank with this discount. Now that's nothing to scoff at! Especially considering how prices seem to levitate every time we turn around.
Recognising the impact of living costs on the elderly, NSW seniors minister Jodie Harrison says the government has left no stone unturned in trying to introduce as many discounts as possible for constituents. In her appeal, she said, 'the rising cost of living was a problem,' stating that this initiative will ‘help keep more money in seniors’ pockets and ease price pressure at the pump’.
Harrison also added that she would welcome businesses to join forces with the government to provide more discounts for seniors.
'If there are any other businesses that want to partner with the NSW government to provide discounts for seniors, I'm all ears,' Harrison declared.
Still, this new partnership is not without criticism. Nationals leader Dugald Saunders earlier pointed out this offer is ‘laughable’ and not better than the regional travel card scheme, where $250 was pre-loaded in a card that could be used at any petrol station. The card could then be used as payment for any transport needs: petrol, taxi trips, bus services, Opal card top-ups or even pre-booked NSW trains. The Minns government, however, halted new applications for this card last July.
‘Mathematically, if you had a car with a 60-litre tank, you'd get $2.40 saving if you filled your car from empty. So you'd have to do that 105 times per year twice a week to save more than the $250 you get from the regional travel card,’ Saunders said.
‘Rather than putting up this silly idea of saving cents per litre at participating stores, let people have what they need,’ he added.
As of writing, it has yet to be confirmed if the same initiative will be available for other states in Australia. But while you wait, you may look around for deals you might find useful in your area with our handy online discounts directory.
