From confusion to clarity: myGovID app gets a fresh new identity soon!

Navigating the digital landscape can be a bit of a maze, especially when it comes to keeping track of all the different government services and apps.

However, there's good news on the horizon for those of us who have been scratching our heads trying to differentiate between myGovID and the myGov services portal.

In a move that's set to simplify our digital experience, the Australian government has announced a significant change.


The Australian government’s digital ID app, myGovID, will be rebranded as ‘myID’ starting in mid-November.

This change is more than just a fresh coat of paint. It's a strategic decision aimed at eliminating the confusion that has surrounded these two separate entities.

For many, especially those who didn't grow up with a smartphone in hand, distinguishing between similarly named services can be unnecessarily complicated.

The upcoming rebranding to myID is a welcome step towards making digital government services more user-friendly and accessible.

The transition to myID will be seamless, delivered as an app update through the App Store or Google Play.

‘When myGovID changes to myID, users won’t need to do anything differently,’ the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) stated.

‘Existing users will not need to set up a new myID.’

‘Login details and the user’s identity strength level set up in myGovID will stay the same and users can continue to use the app in the same way to securely access participating government online services,’ they added.


The decision to rebrand was one of the recommendations from the Critical National Infrastructure myGov User Audit report released in January 2023.

The myGovID app, which will soon be known as myID, enables users to verify their identity online without repeatedly sharing personal documents like passports, birth certificates, and driver’s licences.

Login details and identity strength levels established in myGovID will remain intact, and the app's functionality will continue as usual, allowing secure access to over 150 government online services.


As we anticipate the new look and name, the ATO has also issued a warning to be vigilant against impersonation scams.

‘Scammers can make fake websites or apps that look just like myGovID or myID,’ the ATO cautioned.

‘Only download the myGovID (soon myID) app from the official app stores (Google Play and the App Store).’

‘Don’t click on suspicious links, open attachments or download any files from suspicious emails or SMS; we will never send an unsolicited SMS that contains a hyperlink,’ they continued.

I am right with you. I don't have a snart phone. I don't understand apps. I find it hard enough now trying to do any form of business on the computer; if they change everything I will be completely cutoff as all these things have moved way too fast for me to keep up. I just learn how a new change works & they change it again!!! HELP!!!
You are not alone,but the young think we are just lazy to learn.Youbare smart mum and can learn.No I can't even set up a password after fifty attempts it's still saying no....go figure...and I am not exactly a dinosaur 63 worked in a bank,the crap we are getting from our banking are a joke from someone that actually knows how it all worked once upon three decades ago.Its brings me to tears dealing with these systems and people in call centres in general.We are treated like idiots.I have actually said to a few"pretend I am your mum for a minute" they change.....try.it and good luck everyone
 
I simply do not trust all of this online stuff. It is only a matter of time before hackers are able to crack these id protocols or passwords and hold people or the country to ransom. Stealing customers Id, creating fake profiles, stealing from bank account and or using someone's personal details to get financial loans in someone else's name. Not to mention the inevitable power glitches. My wife tried to pay an account after seeing a specialist the other day. The internet kept having glitches, so we had to go back the next day to pay the account because they did not have the facilities to pay the account another way and give us back the medical rebates.
I know people that retired from Medicare because it was so stressful dealing with.people day in day out that had paid enormous bills and then had to wait for a cheque in the mail as they were only allowed to pay a straight out a GP rebate.It made her sick.
 
The problem is going to come from the misinformation website itself , y/kno the one created by the government themselves as none of what the print or say will be true as WE WILL NOT BELIEVE THEM

Same for my hubby.Lived here all his life going on ,68 years,naturalized two years after getting here,but no numbers don't match.We think maybe it's because his dad had same name but different birthday and hebus deceased.Donyou have any idea how many phone calls we have made over the years.Nobody knows anything,unless you upload your passport (hello identity theft), he can't use his either😩
 
I think us seniors should take a stand, cancel our emails address, request all correspondence by mail, dont use any QR codes as this gives them all your info, use cash for everything if you can. We seniors worked so hard and some of us don’t get any help from the government because we were told to invest and now that investment being tax twice with this land tax, I don’t understand why this government want to help people buy there houses, we never asked for help when we brought our houses, the interest rate was about 17% we didn’t complain and wages was about $100 or so dollars depending on what you did for a job, but this generation expect the government to help them for everything.
